2009 Fantasy Football Draft Sheet

Consisting of 10 members of the Bruno Boys Fantasy Football Staff, along with guest columnist’s from Fighting Chance Fantasy and The IDP Guru, our first of many Fantasy Football 2010 Mock Draft was a 16-round affair based on a standard scoring league (Pass TDs - 4 points, All Other TDs - 6 points, 25 Yards Passing - 1 point, 10 Yards Rushing/Receiving - 1 point). Outside of having to field a starting line-up occupied by 1 QB, 2 RBs, 3 WRs, 1 TE, 1 K, and 1 D, owners were free to compile their rosters any way in which they pleased.

All commentary after each pick is provided by the Bruno Boys staff member who made that pick. The draft started on February 15, 2010 and we will report round-by-round updates as they are available. Make sure to check back for more commentary on our Fantasy Football 2010 Mock Draft.

FEBRUARY MOCK DRAFT ROUND 11 RESULTS

11.01: Bruno Boys Matt - Tashard Choice (Dal) — This pick is a speculative one. It is extremely unlikely that Barber, Jones, and Choice are all back in Dallas next season, despite what team officials say. Dallas has other needs and quite a few teams would be interested in Choice. If he gets dealt, as I think he will, this pick could pay huge dividends. Being a RB4, I can afford to take that risk here.

FEBRUARY MOCK DRAFT ROUND 8 RESULTS

10.01: Bruno Boys Cavigs - Cadillac Williams (TB) — This is a start three wide receiver league and with only three on my current roster I debated taking a fourth here; however, none of them interested me enough to pull the trigger. Instead, I will address my back-up wide receivers with 2010 sleeper picks and take back-to-back running backs at the turn. By drafting Cadillac Williams, I feel I have solidified my depth at the position. Cadillac compiled 1,040 total yards last season and his 93 touches over the last five games are a sign that his knees are healthy and better things are to come.

FEBRUARY MOCK DRAFT ROUND 8 RESULTS

8.01: Bruno Boys Cavigs - Clinton Portis (Was) — After spending the first seven rounds of the draft taking what I like to call “safe picks”, I felt the time was no to take a gamble on a risk/reward pick. Before suffering a season ending concussion injury in Week 9, Portis had trouble finding an opening behind a bad Washington offensive line and could only muster 3.98 yards per carry. Many thought his days were numbered as a Redskin; however, new head coach Mike Shanahan announced in late February that Portis is his starting tailback and he expects him to produce behind an improved O-Line. Even if Portis’ career is nearing a downward spiral, there should be enough left in the tank for him to run successfully in. After all, it was this very same Shanahan blocking system that Portis thrived in as a member of the Denver Broncos.

FEBRUARY MOCK DRAFT ROUND 7 RESULTS

7.01: Bruno Boys Matt - Greg Olsen (Chi) — This may have been a bit of a reach, but I wanted a talented, high ceiling tight end. With Gates, Witten, and Finley (my three favorites) off the board, Olsen represented some value with the first pick in Round 7. A second season with Jay Cutler should be a much improved one for Olsen and the rest of the Bears offense.

FEBRUARY MOCK DRAFT ROUND 6 RESULTS

6.01: Bruno Boys Cavigs - Brent Celek (Phi) — There was no possible way I could go wrong with my pick at 6.01. Targeting a tight end, I was able to choose from among some of the best at the position in Vernon Davis, Tony Gonzalez, Brent Celek and Jermichael Finley. Each has his advantages, and if I didn’t care about having a WR and TE from the same team I might have Davis, but in the end it’s Brent Celek who is the choice. I’m a firm believer that getting 6-9 points from your TE can be the difference in a win-or-loss each week, and in 2009, Celek scored seven or more points in 12 of 16 games.

FEBRUARY MOCK DRAFT ROUND 5 RESULTS

5.01: Bruno Boys Matt - Tony Romo (Dal) — I absolutely despise Romo, but he was the best quarterback available and I was worried about not getting a top notch QB. I do like his high ceiling and I think the emergence of Miles Austin as a legitimate No.1, go to receiver is really going to do wonders for Romo and the Cowboys next season. As the first pick in Round 5, Romo is a great value because he should have no problems posting numbers similar to the QBs taken in the first and second rounds of this mock draft.

FEBRUARY MOCK DRAFT ROUND 4 RESULTS

4.01: Bruno Boys Cavigs - Sidney Rice (Min) — None of the available wide receivers are sure bet WR1 options, so I decided to go with the guy I felt had the most upside. Rice emerged onto the scene with 1,312 yards and eight touchdowns last year, and if Brett Favre returns, those number should be even better. His 2010 success will be contingent on the return of Favre; however, his potential is too good to pass on.

FEBRUARY MOCK DRAFT ROUND 3 RESULTS

3.01: Bruno Boys Matt - Roddy White (Atl) — Because this league starts three receivers, I decided to take White and give myself two of the ten best wide outs in football. Having Chris Johnson, I feel I can wait another round or two and take a shot on some high upside guys at running back. The earlier than anticipated run on quarterbacks will have me waiting a bit and looking for value and upside. I considered Greg Jennings in this spot, but there are too many offensive weapons in Green Bay and the ball gets spread around too much. Donald Driver is still getting it done, James Jones is bouncing back strong, Jordy Nelson is an up and comer, and Jermichael Finley is the next Antonio Gates. All those weapons don’t leave a lot of room for Jennings to dominate consistently. White is the main receiving threat in a good offense with a young, up and coming QB. He’s also coming off a season in which he had 1153 receiving yards with 11 TDs. White is great value as the first pick in 3rd round and exceptional when paired with Megatron in a league that starts three wide receivers.

FEBRUARY MOCK DRAFT ROUND 2 RESULTS

2.01: Bruno Boys Cavigs - Peyton Manning (Ind)Aaron Rodgers was my preferred choice, but I can’t be disappointed with Manning as my consolation prize. In my opinion, consistency wins fantasy football championships and no quarterback has been better than Manning over the past decade. Look for the Colts signal caller to make it 12 straight seasons with at least 3,700 yards and 26 touchdown passes.

FEBRUARY MOCK DRAFT ROUND 1 RESULTS

1.01: Bruno Boys Matt - Chris Johnson (Ten) — Is an explanation needed as to why Johnson is the No.1 overall pick heading into 2010? The second year running back totaled 2,509 yards, 16 touchdowns and led all running backs in fantasy football points. His touchdown totals should remain consistent and even if his yardage totals diminish he would need over a 20 percent decrease to be below 2,000 total yards.
