Still suffering from ankle injury, DeAngelo Williams misses practice Wednesday

Last season when the Carolina Panthers played the New York Giants, running back DeAngelo Williams had 24 carries for 108 yards with four touchdowns. Based on last year’s efforts this sounds like a great match-up for your fantasy football championship round, but the problem is Williams is still suffering from an ankle injury that cost him three quarters of last week’s game against the Minnesota Vikings. DWill missed Wednesday’s team practice with the injury and is questionable for this week’s game with the Giants.

Week 14 of the NFL season kicked off tonight with an AFC North tilt between the defending Super Bowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers and the division bottom feeding Cleveland Browns, which has fantasy footballers extremely excited. As seems to be the case each and every week, injuries are piling up in the NFL, and they are taking their toll on the fantasy football world. As such, the Bruno Boys are once again here to take a look at the news around the NFL and dissect the possible fantasy football impact. DeAngelo Williams returns to practice Wednesday, should play in Week 14

After missing the team’s game in Week 13, Carolina Panthers’ running back DeAngelo Williams returned to practice on Wednesday. He was able to participate in full team workouts, and it appears that there is a good probability that he will be able to play this week when the Panthers take on the New England Patriots.

In 11 games played this season, Williams has rushed for 1,022 yards on 197 carries with seven touchdowns. He might be behind last seasons pace in which he finished with 20 total touchdowns, but when healthy he has been a No. 1 fantasy running back this season. He is averaging 5.2 yards per carry on the season and has added 26 receptions for 234 yards to his totals. He will have a tough match-up this week against a Patriots defense that is allowing 107.9 yards per carry and has given up just three rushing touchdowns through 12 games. He will once again share carries with Jonathan Stewart, who had a good game last week in a starting role. If Williams is healthy enough to play, he should be used as a RB2 in this match-up, while Stewart will make a solid RB3 or flex option. If for some reason Williams is inactive for the game, Stewart becomes a No. 2 fantasy running back.

After missing Week 12, Big Ben is expected to play versus Oakland

Since missing the Steelers’ Week 12 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, Pittsburgh quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has been able to workout without any problems. He returned to practice on Wednesday and is expected to play for Pittsburgh in their Week 13 contest against the Oakland Raiders.

After suffering his second concussion in less then a year in Week 11, Roethlisberger had post practice headaches last week that were caused by physical activity, which was the reason that he missed the game against Baltimore. Since he has been able to workout without issue this week and practice on Wednesday it appears safe to insert Big Ben into your starting lineup for this week’s game against the Raiders. He has passed for 2,867 yards with 17 touchdowns and 10 interceptions this season. Use him as a low-end QB1 this week; just make sure you have a backup plan in place to protect yourself against a possible setback.

First off, the Bruno Boys would like to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. We hope everyone has a happy, healthy and safe holiday season. Thanksgiving not only signifies the start of what tends to be a very hectic holiday season, it also signifies that the fantasy football playoffs are right around the corner. In most fantasy leagues, playoffs start in Week 14, which means we have just two weeks left to jockey for playoff position.

With playoffs approaching so quickly, this tends to be one of the most important weeks of the fantasy football season. Many teams will clinch playoff spots, while others will be left wondering what they did wrong over the course of the season that caused them to fall short and finish on the outside looking in. It is as important as ever to make sure that you have the right lineup in place this week. You do not want to make a mistake that costs you a shot at the playoffs and a chance at a fantasy football championship.

As you prepare the balancing act that is your Week 12 fantasy lineup, the Bruno Boys are once again here to study the potential fantasy football impact of some of this week’s news around the NFL. So, as you recover from your food induced coma after stuffing yourself on Thanksgiving, take a trip with us around the NFL as we take a look at some key injuries that could have a fantasy football impact.

Michael Turner returns to practice, remains questionable for this week

In less than two weeks after suffering a high-ankle sprain, Michael Turner surprisingly returned to practice Wednesday albeit on a limited basis. He suffered the injury in Week 10 against the Carolina Panthers and missed last week’s loss to the New York Giants. He seems to be on his way back from the injury, but according to head coach Mike Smith there is no timetable set for his return.

Turner has been having another very good season with 165 carries for 831 yards and 10 touchdowns in nine games played. Heading into Week 10, he had scored at least one touchdown in seven straight games. In Turner’s absence last week, back-up Jason Snelling was the starting running back and notched 25 carries for 76 yards with two touchdowns. If Turner doesn’t play this week, Snelling should be used as RB2 in a good match-up against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. If Turner does play, he will likely be limited and share carries with Snelling, making both of them low-end No. 2 running backs or flex options. Check back with us on Sunday morning as Turner will likely be a game time decision.

One problem that occurs in such a violent game is injuries. Injuries are not only a problem when they happen to key players on your favorite NFL team, they can be a major problem when they happen to key players on your fantasy football team. Andre Johnson suffers lung contusion Week 7, likely to play versus Buffalo

Houston Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson suffered a lung contusion in the second quarter of the team’s Week 7 victory over the San Francisco 49ers after he was hit in the lower back. He remained in the game, but ended up coughing up blood after landing on the ball while making a catch in the fourth quarter. He stayed in the game for one more play before the Texans’ medical staff took him off the field.

Johnson ran with the team, but did not practice on Wednesday. However, he did practice on Thursday. He is listed as day-to-day and he is expected to play against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, unless he suffers a set-back. The Bills who have struggled this season are actually ranked No. 10 against the pass and pose a tough match-up, but if he plays he is a must-start fantasy football wide receiver. Keep an eye on this situation throughout the weekend, but it does appear Johnson will be ready to go this week.
