Normal fantasy football leagues have come to an end and what a great season it was. We hope that you did well in your league, or leagues, but if you’re still looking for some fantasy football action while the playoffs go on, and you’re looking for some help then look no further because the Bruno Boys will be here throughout the postseason. As such we’ll be releasing our normal weekly position rankings to help you best decide which players to go with in our Fantasy Football Playoff Challenge. To see where this round’s running backs rank continue reading the Super Bowl Round edition of the Bruno Boys Weekly Running Back Rankings.
1. Joseph Addai (Indianapolis Colts) vs. New Orleans
Joseph Addai bounced back from a sub-par 2008 season and finished 2009 with 828 rushing yards and 13 total touchdowns. It looked like there was a possibility he could lose his starting spot in the Colts’ backfield to rookie Donald Brown, but heading into these playoffs he was the team’s clear-cut No. 1 rushing option. As many before him have, Addai struggled in the Divisional round of the playoffs against the Baltimore Ravens. He finished the game with 11 carries for 23 yards. Despite suffering a shoulder injury and leaving the game in the first quarter against the New York Jets in the AFC Championship game, he returned to the lineup in the second quarter and finished with 80 rushing yards on 16 carries. He should be in line for very solid numbers in the Super Bowl against a New Orleans Saints defense that gave up 122 rushing yards and three touchdowns to Adrian Peterson in the NFC Championship game.

Well this it. We’re finally here as the final week of the NFL season will commence Sunday with the New Orleans Saints and the Indianapolis Colts playing in Super Bowl XLIV, and it would be hard to ask for a better matchup. Not only do we have two elite teams with good offenses and defenses, more specifically we have two of the game’s elite quarterbacks, Peyton Manning for Indianapolis and Drew Brees for New Orleans, battling it out against each other.
So, most fantasy football leagues are done and most playoff challenge leagues forced you to lock in your Super Bowl picks during the conference championship round but that’s not going to stop us from releasing our weekly rankings. Why, you may ask? Well, we get a kick out of breaking down matchups and analyzing potential fantasy value for any regular or postseason game. Plus, we figure it gives you something fun to read. So let’s not keep you waiting any longer. Here are the Bruno Boys Quarterback Rankings for Super Bowl XLIV.
1. Peyton Manning (Indianapolis Colts) vs. New Orleans
Knowing how good the Saints defense is at intercepting the ball, we still decided to go with Manning as the top dog this week and that’s for a few key reasons. First of all, we’ve seen that the young players who needed to step up this season, guys like wide receivers Austin Collie and Pierre Garcon, have not only done so but have played extremely well in the playoffs and in pressure situations. Manning started to develop a lot of trust in those guys from the moment Anthony Gonzalez went down with injury in Week 1, and that has helped the offense become so reliable this late in the season. Manning trusts those guys and that’s huge considering the Saints know they won’t be able to just shut down Reggie Wayne. Then of course, you also have tight end Dallas Clark, who always seems to make huge plays. The Saints may be able to slow down the Colts at times, but Manning simply has the offense operating at too high of a level for him not to register a good amount of fantasy football points with the Super Bowl on the line.

As such we’ll be releasing our normal weekly position rankings to help you best decide which players to go with in our Fantasy Football Playoff Challenge. The first iteration will be the quarterbacks and there isn’t a whole lot of surprise in the rankings. To see where all four of the players rank this week continue reading the Championship Round edition of the Bruno Boys Weekly Quarterback Rankings.
We’re now down to the final four in the NFL and there aren’t any major surprises, aside from the New York Jets. It’s now been consecutive seasons in which a rookie quarterback, Mark Sanchez of the Jets this season, has led his team to the AFC title game. Last year it was Joe Flacco of the Baltimore Ravens. Either way, it would be impossible to imagine Sanchez leading the Jets to a win over the Indianapolis Colts this week. Meanwhile, in the NFC, we get to see two dome teams, the Minnesota Vikings and New Orleans Saints, battle it out in the Superdome. Regardless of what happens this weekend it appears we’ll be set for a great Super Bowl match-up, and that’s about all you can ask.
1. Drew Brees (New Orleans Saints) vs. Minnesota
The week off certainly didn’t affect the Saints offense at all. Last week in a blowout win over the Arizona Cardinals, New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees threw for 247 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions. A lot of people were concerned about Brees and the Saints, considering the way they ended the regular season, yet it looked like the Saints players had completely forgotten about that. This is an elite offense that’s impossible to completely stop, and though the Vikings have a great defense, Brees is the type of guy who can get it done against them. Besides, Minnesota’s defensive weakness is pass coverage, and Brees will be able to exploit that.

The Wild Card round is past us, but now we enter the Divisional round and all four match-ups look like they’ll provide some great games. When evaluating the match-ups, it also became clear that a lot of these games will be decided by good, or bad, quarterback play. Saturday’s games also figure to be the most prominent ones for those in fantasy football playoff challenges. On Saturday, the Arizona Cardinals will play at the New Orleans Saints and later the Baltimore Ravens will travel to play the Indianapolis Colts. That’s three of the league’s top quarterbacks, Peyton Manning, Drew Brees and Kurt Warner, and one second-year starter who’s on his way to stardom taking the field.
The second day of the Divisional round on Sunday figures to be good as well, though not so much from a fantasy football perspective. Sure, the early game will feature two studs in the forms of Tony Romo and future Hall of Famer Brett Favre, as the Dallas Cowboys travel to Minnesota to take on the Minnesota Vikings, but the second game, which features the New York Jets at the San Diego Chargers will leave fantasy owners wanting more. Not only does the game feature the lone rookie QB still standing this season in Mark Sanchez, but it also pits Philip Rivers against one of the best pass defenses in the NFL.m
As for this past weekend’s action, Mark Sanchez of the New York Jets performed admirably last week as he went 12-for-15 for 182 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions in a win over the Cincinnati Bengals, while Kurt Warner was ridiculous in going 29-for-33 for 379 yards with five touchdowns and no interceptions. To see if those guys will be able to replicate those performances this week, as well as to see where the rest of the quarterbacks fall, continue reading the Division Round Quarterback Rankings.
1. Drew Brees (New Orleans Saints) vs. Arizona
The league’s most explosive offense, the New Orleans Saints, gets to begin the post season against a team that allowed 45 points last week. That happened against the Packers, who have an inferior offense live to that of the Saints, and when you combine those two things, it’s easy to see why this week could be a huge one for Brees and the Saints offense as a whole. But, that doesn’t mean you should expect Brees to match Aaron Rodgers’ 422-yard, four-touchdown performance. This is the playoffs, after all, so we have to restrain our optimism about Brees this week. Having said that, his projected 24 points could easily turn into 34.

We’ve arrived at the final week of the regular season in the NFL and the last week of competition in fantasy football leagues. Sure there are playoff challenges to be played (including one with the Bruno Boys), but for most teams, this is it. The Bruno Boys will continue through the playoffs with rankings for players at each position, but for one final week we’ve got a full set of rankings to help out your team.
Of course, fantasy football championships aside this should be a very exciting week in the NFL as there are still playoff spots to be determined in the AFC and seedings to be set in the NFC. This has created some interesting match-ups, but of course, it also means you need to be aware if the quarterback you own will play the entire game, just part of the game or sit the bench from kickoff by keeping track of the news coming in from around the NFL. As the previous sentence is of the utmost importance, let us repeat it in bold capital letters - YOU NEED TO BE AWARE IF THE QUARTERBACK YOU OWN WILL PLAY THE ENTIRE GAME, JUST PART OF THE GAME, OR SIT THE BENCH FROM KICKOFF BY KEEPING TRACK OF THE NEWS COMING IN FROM AROUND THE NFL.
While it’s easy to say thatIndianapolis Colts’ quarterback Peyton Manning is a good bet to see a quick hook after the Colts chose to rest him despite their pursuit of perfection this past weekend, it’s a bit difficult this early in the week to determine what other teams around the league will do. To find out where the quarterbacks are ranked this week, just continue reading the Bruno Boys Fantasy Football Week 17 Quarterback Rankings. But, remember to keep in mind that these rankings might change throughout the week as more and more information becomes available.
RANKINGS UPDATED AS OF 01/02/2010
1. Matt Schaub (Houston Texans) vs. New England
If the Houston Texans are to make the playoffs, it will be entirely on quarterback Matt Schaub’s shoulders. The last three weeks, he’s played well enough (1,018 yards passing, 5 TDs, and 3 turnovers) to help the Texans be in the position they’re in, and this week he’ll need to do the same. With both teams playing hard to win this game, it’s likely Schaub will get his fair share of points whether he helps lead the Texans to a win, or if he’s trying to come from behind for the victory. Either way, Schaub is a good play this week.

Here’s hoping your quarterback situation isn’t as dire as the Buffalo Bills or Oakland Raiders is. The Bills, who saw both Trent Edwards and Ryan Fitzpatrick sustain ankle injuries in last week’s loss to the New England Patriots, are now pondering the prospect of starting Brian Brohm at quarterback. Brohm was last seen backing up Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers as a member of the team’s practice squad. The Raiders lost Bruce Grakowski for the season and had deemed JaMarcus Russell ineffective so last week Charlie Frye got the start. He too got injured, leaving Russell to get into the game in what would turn out to be a win over the Denver Broncos. Russell then got hurt and had to sit out a play, and in stepped J.P. Losman, who was last seen leading the Las Vegas Locomotives to a win in the UFL championship game earlier this year.
To avoid suffering a similar fate as the Bills and Raiders, which had stumbled to losing records this season, be sure to read the Bruno Boys Fantasy Football Week 16 Quarterback Rankings to find out who to play with your fantasy football championship on the line.
1. Aaron Rodgers (Green Bay Packers) vs. Seattle
Though one could argue that Drew Brees has the most favorable matchup, it’s hard to argue against Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers taking on the leagues worst secondary over the past two months. Rodgers, who threw three touchdowns and no picks last week in a close loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, will be at home this week against the Seattle Seahawks who are just a mess right now. The Seahawks lost big to the Buccaneers last week and rank 29th in the NFL in passing yards allowed and 23rd in points allowed. Look for Rodgers to post another huge game en route to leading all quarterbacks in fantasy football points scored in 2009.

With just three weeks left in the regular season, and likely less in your fantasy football season, it is now or never both in reality and fantasy. One thing the final weeks of the season are good for are some good divisional games, which typically means tighter contests, but another thing to look out for is the late-season weather. How much did inclement weather play into the poor performance for the Green Bay Packers’ quarterback Aaron Rodgers last week in a win over the Chicago Bears? Will weather play into the equation this week for Rodgers when he travels to Pittsburgh to play the Steelers, Tom Brady when the New England Patriots travel to Buffalo or Jay Cutler when the Chicago Bears head to Baltimore? Well, weather hasn’t affected Rodgers or Brady all that much in the past, a fact that reflected in our rankings this week. Of course with Cutler, playing him at all is a gamble, so to see where he and the rest of the quarterbacks rank for week 15 just read the Bruno Boys Fantasy Football Week 15 Quarterback Rankings.
1. Peyton Manning (Indianapolis Colts) @ Jacksonville
We all know how impressive Indianapolis Colts’ quarterback Peyton Manning is, but what was impressive about him last week was he led the team to a win over the Denver Broncos while throwing three interceptions. Those three picks also came with 220 passing yards and four touchdowns as well, giving him yet another solid fantasy football performance. This week, the Colts travel to Jacksonville to face the Jaguars, and it’s going to be another huge game for Peyton. In week one, Manning went for 301 yards with a touchdown and an interception in a win over the Jaguars, and we expect him to post similar stats but with another touchdown this time around.

As we enter Week 14 of the regular season, and likely the first or second round of your fantasy football playoffs, we find some intriguing match-ups at the quarterback position. It’s the reason why Vince Young of the Tennessee Titans, Ben Roethlisberger of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Matt Schaub of the Houston Texans all find themselves in the Top-10 this week. Of course there are some unfavorable match-ups, including the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ Josh Freeman, who is coming off of a five-interception performance and will play against a tough New York Jets secondary. To find out where your quarterback stacks up against the rest, including projected point totals for all starting quarterbacks just continue reading the Bruno Boys Fantasy Football Week 14 Quarterback Rankings.
1. Aaron Rodgers (Green Bay Packers) @ Chicago
Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers only has seven interceptions this season and three of those came in one game. Since throwing three interceptions against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Rodgers has thrown nine touchdowns with just two picks in four games. There’s no reason to believe he’s going to slow down anytime soon, especially this week against the Chicago Bears. Chicago is beat on defense and currently has a mediocre secondary at best, thus you should expect a big game from Rodgers, who is arguably this years fantasy football MVP.

Well, Bruno Boys Nation, we’re at that wonderful time of the year when we see if all the work we put into our fantasy football teams will come to fruition as the playoffs are beginning in a lot of leagues or have already started in some other cases. If you’re in a league that still has a week to go fear not, we will continue to break down and analyze all things fantasy football from here all the way through the Super Bowl. That begins with today’s look at the Week 13 Quarterback Rankings. There are some nice match-ups for a lot of quarterbacks, so to determine which one is the best fit for your team just continue on reading below.
1. Drew Brees (New Orleans Saints) @ Washington
We’re convinced that there’s just no way possible to stop New Orleans Saints’ quarterback Drew Brees. Playing against the New England Patriots on Monday Night, the thought was that the Pats , while maybe not stopping Brees, would be able to contain him. But, that wasn’t the case as he threw for 371 yards and five touchdowns with no interceptions. The Washington Redskins have a good defense, but as we’ve seen this season, that has not been a challenge for Brees. Continue to start him as usual.

Sure, there are some good match-ups this week, including the Chicago Bears heading to Minny to take on Brett Favre and the Vikings, an AFC North match-up pitting the Pittsburgh Steelers against the Baltimore Ravens, as well as the rematch of the Indianapolis Colts and Houston Texans. But, the biggest game this week will be when the New England Patriots and quarterback Tom Brady play at the Superdome against the New Orleans Saints and quarterback Drew Brees. Just two weeks ago, the Patriots almost ended the Colts undefeated season, but a questionable decision to go for it on fourth down late in the game cost New England. This week the Patriots will have another shot at taking down an undefeated team, but playing at New Orleans isn’t easy as the Saints have won nine of their last ten games at home. Aside from the incredible quarterback play that will be on display in this game, these are two of the league’s best teams, so be sure you do whatever you can to watch this game. To find out where Brady, Brees and the rest of the quarterbacks stack up in week 12, continue reading the Bruno Boys Fantasy Football Week 12 Quarterback Rankings.
1. Aaron Rodgers (Green Packers) @ Detroit
Winners of three in a row and five of their last six, the Green Bay Packers appear to have turned their season around following a 1-3 start, and there’s no way they’d be in this position without quarterback Aaron Rodgers. A lot has been made of the play of other quarterbacks such as Favre, Brees, Brady and Manning, but it is Rodgers who currently tops all quarterbacks in points scored this season. The match-up with the Detroit Lions this week will only solidify his ranking as the top quarterback. Last week the Lions gave up 344 passing yards and four touchdowns to Brady Quinn and the Cleveland Browns, making Rodgers the best quarterback play this week.
