CHAMPIONSHIP RISERS

RBs Pierre Thomas, Reggie Bush, & Mike Bell (New Orleans Saints) - Minnesota Vikings’ DT Kevin Williams was able to practice Friday for the first time all week. His participation, though, was limited, and he is questionable for this weekend’s match-up with the New Orleans Saints. While the other “Brother Williams,” Pat Williams, will still be on the field to slow the Saints’ running game, the absence of Kevin Williams does make things just a tad bit easier for the Saints’ trio of backs.

WILD CARD RISERS

QB Joe Flacco (Baltimore Ravens) - The Ravens’ sophomore quarterback, who became the first rookie to lead his team to two playoff wins in the same season in 2009, is currently dealing with a hip injury as he gets set to square off with the New England Patriots on Sunday. The injury is said to be minor with Flacco listed as probable for the game. He is fully expected to be on the field for Sunday’s affair, but that still doesn’t mean we’re putting our trust in him for Wild Card weekend as it is our belief that the Ravens will rely on the legs of Ray Rice and Willis McGahee in this one.

WEEK 17 RISERS

Carolina Panthers D/ST - With breaking news coming out on Friday Night that the New Orleans Saints will rest quarterback Drew Brees on Sunday it has the Panthers D/ST climbing up the charts. Entering the week the Panthers D/ST were a team that you wouldn’t even think twice about playing but with Brees and running back Pierre Thomas out of action look for Carolina’s defense to make it three straight games with solid fantasy football totals.

Risers and Fallers highlights those players who have seen their fantasy football value for the weekend’s upcoming games either rise (increase) or fall (decrease).

Prior to getting into this week’s individual RISERS & FALLERS, we felt it would be prudent to cover one team as a whole and that is the Indianapolis Colts. While the Colts’ are sitting at 14-0 with a chance to complete an undefeated season, everything else for their playoff run has been wrapped up as the team has secured a first round bye and home field advantage throughout the playoffs. As a result, there is a good chance that the team will rest some of it’s bigger names. This always leads to a dilemma for fantasy owners. Do you roll with the likes of Peyton Manning who may see just one half of football action or do you turn to a safer option who will get a full 60 minutes worth of work? The Bruno Boys take on this is that you need to evaluate your options on an individual basis. Sitting Dallas Clark makes sense if you have a strong option like a Fred Davis or Jermichael Finley to put in his spot, but it does not make sense if you’re relying on a Dante Rosario type player. After all, one half of Clark poses the greater potential for points than a full game of Rosario. With that said, let’s now get into the individual RISERS & FALLERS for week 16…

WEEK 15 RISERS

QB Matt Moore (Carolina Panthers) - Moore hasn’t been outstanding as the Carolina Panthers’ starting QB, but he has been better than the man he’s filling in for, Jake Delhomme. After all, Moore has a TD to INT ratio of 1:2, which is much better than Delhomme’s 8:18. Still, he’s not yet fantasy worthy and should be avoided at all costs.

QB Daunte Culpepper (Detroit Lions) - The Lion’s finally seem to get it as they continue to play it cautious with rookie QB Matthew Stafford, who is dealing with a sore shoulder, a wise move considering how these games are meaningless for Detroit. Stafford is listed as doubtful, which indicates that Culpepper will get the start for Detroit yet again. A start for Detroit, though, doesn’t he starts on any fantasy team this weekend. Heck, Culpepper probably has himself benched in his leagues.

QB Tom Brady (New England Patriots) - Brady’s owners can rest easy this week as the QB despite all his ailments is sporting simply a probable tag this weekend. With just 9 fantasy points in week 14, Brady will look to bounce back against a Bills team that he threw for 378 yards and 2 TDs against back in week 1.

QB Mark Sanchez (New York Jets) - After practicing for three straight days and being medically cleared to play, the Jets have announced that rookie Mark Sanchez will start for the team on Sunday. Don’t, though, expect Sanchez to do all that much as the Jets figure to pound the ball on the ground all game long against the 23rd ranked rush defense of the Atlanta Falcons.

QB Vince Young (Tennessee Titans) - Young continues to be dogged by a questionable listing as we get set for Sunday’s games, but the good news is the QB practiced in full on Friday. Young has said he’ll be on the field, and with the Titans matching up against the Miami Dolphins in what is a huge game for both teams playoff wise, we expect that to be the case.

WEEK 14 RISERS

QB Daunte Culpepper (Detroit Lions) - The Lions’ apparently have finally gotten wise to the fact that they are no longer in the playoff hunt as the team has named Daunte Culpepper their starter for week 14. With rookie Matthew Stafford hampered by a shoulder injury, there is just no reason to risk his health any further. As for Culpepper, there’s no reason for you to plug him into your line-up.

QB Matt Schaub (Houston Texans) - After missing much of week 13 due to a dislocated shoulder on his non-throwing arm, Schaub returned to action and finished the game for the Texans. The quarterback, then, partook fully in practice throughout the week. Thus, it seems likely he’ll be under center on Sunday for Houston. As routinely mentioned here at the Bruno Boys, if healthy, Schaub is a solid fantasy option.

Risers and Fallers highlights those players who have seen their fantasy football value for the weekend’s upcoming games either rise (increase) or fall (decrease).

WEEK 13 RISERS

QB Matt Leinart (Arizona Cardinals) - With Kurt Warner’s status for Sunday up in the air, Leinart could earn his second straight start. The QB amassed only 8 fantasy points in a week 12 loss to the Tennessee Titans, and despite the vast amount of talent the Cardinals showcase at the wide receiver position, Leinart is nothing more than a QB2 or insurance policy for Warner this weekend.

QB Matthew Stafford (Detroit Lions) - Already in his young career, Stafford is earning himself the reputation of a gamer as he will continue to play through his shoulder ailment, suiting up for this week’s contest with the Cincinnati Bengals. Stafford came back down to earth in week 12, following his 32 point outing in week 11, as he tallied just 6 fantasy points. Against the Bengals, Stafford will more than likely be closer to those 6 fantasy points he had last week than the 32 he posted two weeks ago.

QB Eli Manning (New York Giants) - It’s no secret that New York Giants’ quarterback, Eli Manning, is dealing with a foot injury; however, the QB does not appear on this week’s injury report. He will be on the field for the Giants game with the Dallas Cowboys, a team he burnt for 21 fantasy points earlier this season. However, because of the foot injury, expect a lesser day from Manning this week.

QB Ben Roethlisberger (Pittsburgh Steelers) - A surprise scratch in week 12, Big Ben has practiced all week this week and appears set to play against the Oakland Raiders. Big Ben’s owners, though, should keep an eye on the QB’s status as we get closer to game time. Concussions are a tricky business and set backs often to do occur.

WEEK 12 RISERS

QB Kurt Warner (Arizona Cardinals) - Protecting his own health, Warner took himself out of the Cardinals’ week 11 match-up with the St. Louis Rams after suffering a head injury. The injury has Warner tagged as questionable for this weekend’s contest against the Tennessee Titans, but the QB practiced all week long and felt good following Friday’s outing. He is expected to be on the field barring any setbacks.

QB Peyton Manning (Indianapolis Colts) - A sore glute limited Manning in practice on Wednesday and Thursday, but the Colts have reported the area was merely sore and the injury minor. He’ll be on the field Sunday to continue his quest towards the MVP.

QB Dennis Dixon (Pittsburgh Steelers) - While Ben Roethlisberger has passed all the necessary medical tests to play on Sunday, NFL.com has reported that the Steelers’ quarterback is leaning towards opting out of Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens. Doing so, would clear the way for Dixon to start. Dixon has thrown just one pass in his career, which was completed for a whopping three yards. Needless to say, even while the Ravens haven’t exactly been the Ravens of old when it comes to defending the pass, Dixon is not fantasy worthy.

WEEK 11 RISERS

QB Joe Flacco (Baltimore Ravens) – Flacco’s owners should not be worried about the quarterback’s appearance on the Ravens’ injury report this week as the QB partook in all of the teams’ practices throughout the week. What Flacco’s owners should be concerned about is his declining play of late and a Week 11 match-up with the tough pass defense of the Indianapolis Colts.
