2009 Fantasy Football Draft Sheet
2009 Fantasy Football Draft Sheet

The Super Bowl! Plain and simple, the best game of the year. Football is the only sport that decides its champion in one game, which inevitably makes it the most watched, most exciting game of the year.

We are fortunate enough to see two amazingly efficient and high-powered offenses go at it for 60 minutes this coming Sunday. While many are just watching the game for the commercials, you out there in Bruno Boys Nation are all hoping a few tips can win you some pride (and perhaps money) in your Playoff Challenges.

QUARTERBACKS

Drew Brees vs. Peyton Manning

The Indianapolis Colts are favored in this game, but it doesn’t mean that Peyton Manning is going to have the better fantasy match-up. It seems like both quarterbacks are capable of posting 20+ point games, but I’m giving the slight nod to Drew Brees with around the same numbers, but one less turnover.

Brees Projection: 312 yards, 3 TDs

QUARTERBACKS – SIT ‘EM

Mark Sanchez (New York Jets) @ Indianapolis

Yes, it doesn’t really seem feasible for him to be your starting quarterback this weekend anyways as the other three options really are too good to bench. I mean, would you ever choose Sanchez over the likes of Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, or Brett Favre in a must win game? Any of those three should post between 15-20 fantasy points, with Sanchez in the wings with 8-11 maximum.

Drew Brees (New Orleans Saints) vs. Minnesota

The Minnesota Vikings were extremely disruptive to the game plan of the Dallas Cowboys last weekend. As a result they limited Dallas to less than 300 yards of total offense and just three points. Don’t expect that to happen this week against the New Orleans Saints. These Saints are an explosive offense that can do a much better job taking care of the football and features multiple players that can make big plays. Brees is an unbelievable fantasy football quarterback who has enough weapons on offense that the Vikings cannot key in on one single player. While there are three potential good quarterback starts this weekend (Peyton Manning and Brett Favre are the others), Brees should bring the greatest reward this weekend for fantasy owners.

QUARTERBACKS – SIT ‘EM

Tony Romo (Dallas Cowboys) @ Minnesota

If there is one quarterback that could struggle this weekend, it’s Tony Romo (Not counting young QBs Mark Sanchez and Joe Flacco as you shouldn’t even be considering them). The Minnesota Vikings’ pass defense wasn’t exactly dominant (#21 in the NFL), but their pass rush is second to none. If they are able to disrupt Romo early, he could be forced into making mistakes. Romo could still be good for 17 fantasy points, but QBs Drew Brees, Kurt Warner, and Peyton Manning should all trump Romo’s production quite easily.

Drew Brees (New Orleans Saints) vs. Arizona

With the game that Aaron Rodgers posted on the Arizona Cardinals during Wild Card weekend, is there really a better quarterback option than Brees? Your QB choices may be depending on your format, and Brees is no guarantee to win this game against playoff winner Kurt Warner, but if you are playing in a weekly format, Brees should be used. He plays at home against a Cardinals defense that is fresh off of allowing Rodgers to post 39 fantasy football points. This game should be a track meet that features many big plays, and Brees, as well as Kurt Warner, should be a valuable options when choosing your quarterbacks this weekend.

QUARTERBACKS – SIT ‘EM

Carson Palmer (Cincinnati Bengals) vs. New York Jets

We’d breakdown as to why New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez is a Sit Em this week but that’s too easy. Instead, let’s talk Carson Palmer. How good were the New York Jets against the quarterback position in 2009? They were the best in the NFL. New York allowed nine touchdowns (1 rushing), under 2,700 yards passing (yes, the next best was over 400 yards worse), and a league low six fantasy points allowed per game. Palmer hasn’t been the Palmer of old in 2009, but he hasn’t been horrendous either. However, it’s probably best to look elsewhere, during Wild Card weekend.

QUARTERBACKS – START ‘EM

Aaron Rodgers (Green Bay Packers) @ Arizona

With this year’s NFC playoffs being touted as having the best quarterback competition, Aaron Rodgers should set himself apart during Wild Card weekend. In what should be an explosive offensive game, Rodgers will lead the way against the Arizona Cardinals in a repeat of their week 17 match-up. Rodgers bested the Cardinals in that game by throwing for 235 yards and a touchdown, while adding another TD via the rush. While most of the QBs going this weekend should have good performances, Rodgers will best them all this weekend. Wide receivers Greg Jennings and Donald Driver, along with tight end Jermichael Finley present match-up problems all over the field for the Cardinals pass defense, match-up problems that Rodgers will exploit.

QUARTERBACKS – SIT ‘EM

Carson Palmer (Cincinnati Bengals) @ New York Jets

Palmer has been a shell of his former self, at least statistically, this season. He’s thrown for fewer than 180 yards in four of his last seven games and has multiple touchdown passes in just six of his last eight games. To top it off, he has to face the top-ranked pass defense in the league this week in New York. Even if he were to set to play a full 60 minutes, which doesn’t appear to be the case, Palmer would be a guy you want to avoid in Week 17.

QUARTERBACKS – START ‘EM

Ben Roethlisberger (Pittsburgh Steelers) @ Miami

Big Ben is having his most productive season as a passer in terms of yards, as he’s gone over 4,000 yards for the first time in his career – he hadn’t even gone over 3,600 before. He’ s also thrown at least 20 touchdowns for the second time in his career, and is in prime position to pad his stats against a Miami Dolphins team that has had problems controlling the passing games of their opposition this season. Look for the Steelers to draw up a game-plan that attacks Miami’s vulnerable defensive backs and features a heavy dosage of Santonio Holmes, Hines Ward and Heath Miller. With your season on the line their aren’t many better options than Roethlisberger.

QUARTERBACKS – SIT ‘EM

Matt Ryan (Atlanta Falcons) vs. Buffalo

The Buffalo Bills pass defense is for real. If you don’t believe us just ask Tom Brady. They held Brady to seven fantasy points in Week 15 and now face Matt Ryan who posted a measly 10 fantasy points against the New York Jets last weekend. While Ryan was a solid option early in the season with good match-ups, this is not a good match-up and Ryan and the Falcons offense isn’t nowhere near as efficient as it was at the start of the season. The Bills have intercepted an NFL-high 24 passes (tied with the New Orleans Saints) this season through 14 games, and with Ryan being turnover happy of late we expect him to struggle in his match-up this weekend. Don’t start him in any format other than a 12 or 14-team league that starts two quarterbacks.
