Week 17 brings an end to the NFL regular season, and also presents a challenge for fantasy football owners. With many teams having playoff spots clinched and possibly their exact playoff seed clinched as well, many of the top players on those teams that have helped owners reach this point may not play a whole game or may not even play at all depending on the situation.
On the other hand, there are opportunities for players to leave a positive impression when given an opportunity to play in this final week and fantasy owners that stay informed can find some of these players to be helpful in finishing strong and taking home a league title or a consolation bracket.
Quick Note: Not all players that had strong Week 13 outings are on this list, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they don’t have value. If you have any questions about free agents not discussed in this article, head over to the forums and we’ll help you with the answers.
Quarterbacks-Pick Them Up
Joe Webb (Minnesota Vikings)
Webb went 4-for-5 for 84 yards and two touchdowns along with 34 rushing yards and a touchdown against the Washington Redskins in Week 16, as he again played well in place of Christian Ponder, who went down to a concussion during Saturday’s game. Ponder’s status has to be considered up in the air for Week 17 against the Chicago Bears, so Webb looks almost certain to make his third NFL start next Sunday. The Bears have not been particularly generous to quarterbacks, but Webb’s ability as a runner and the lack of overall game tape on him will make him a challenge to contain. Fantasy owners who are facing the prospect of their main quarterback not playing full game in Week 17 should take a long look at adding Webb this week.

John Skelton (Arizona Cardinals)
Skelton went 23-for-44 for 297 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions in Week 16 against the Cincinnati Bengals, and has now averaged just over 297 passing yards per game over his last three games with six touchdown passes in that span. With Kevin Kolb still dealing with concussion symptoms, the second-year man from Fordham looks likely to get the starting nod in Week 17 against the Seattle Seahawks. Seattle has allowed less than 200 passing yards in three straight games and just two touchdown passes in their last four games, but prior to that they had been vulnerable to good quarterbacks and even allowed 252 passing yards to Kolb back in Week 3. There is not a ton of upside here, but fantasy football owners who have a need can take solace in the fact that Skelton will play a full game in Week 17 barring injury. That, plus the fact he has been so productive lately, makes him worth adding in 12 and 14-team leagues.
