Consisting of nine members of the Bruno Boys Fantasy Football Staff, along with guest columnist, Ryan Hallam, from Fighting Chance Fantasy, the Bruno Boys Mock Draft was a 14-round affair based on a standard scoring league (Pass TDs - 4 points, All Other TDs - 6 points). Outside of having to field a starting line-up occupied by 1 QB, 2 RBs, 3 WRs, 1 TE, 1 K, and 1 D, owners were free to compile their rosters any way in which they pleased. All commentary after each pick is provided by the Bruno Boys staff member who made the pick. The draft was conducted over email and took place from July 13, 2009 to August 3, 2009.
You can probably guess who went No. 1, but check out the results below to see who placed where in the remaining 139 selections.
ROUND 1 RESULTS
1.01: Dominic Brown - Adrian Peterson (Min) - If only all life’s choices were this easy. Peterson is aiming for 2,000 yards this season and I’m betting he makes it!
1.02: Greg Warnock - Michael Turner (Atl) - Despite all the MJD hype, I still feel there are two possible choices for the top pick in Turner and Peterson. Being at No. 2, you can sit and take the one who doesn’t go No. 1. Regardless of what others think, I feel Turner is set to duplicate, or exceed his numbers of a year ago.
1.03: Ryan Hallam - Matt Forte (Chi) - Forte proved to be a workhorse for a team that loves to run. With the acquisition of Jay Cutler, defenses shouldn’t be able to stack eight in the box against him. Expect a better year for Forte.
1.04: Jimbo Jones - Maurice Jones-Drew (Jac) - MJD is without a doubt the man in Jacksonville now and he should see plenty of carries and receptions in 2009. For how much this offense will revolve around him, he should be drafted no later than fourth in most drafts.
1.05: Cory Steger - Frank Gore (SF) - Though I was tempted to take a bigger named running back here, I saw a running back in Gore that has the makings of a huge ‘09 campaign in the 49ers revamped offense. Hopefully, the San Francisco passing game can take some pressure off of him this season, allowing him more space to run.
1.06: Kyle Smith - Steven Jackson (StL) - The Rams’ offense will center around Jackson because, well, that’s all they have. He’s one of the most physically imposing backs in the league, and has great hands to boot. St. Louis’ offensive line finally beefed up in the off-season, which will only help Jackson.
1.07: Chris Ziza – LaDainian Tomlinson (SD) – Personally I would of grabbed Tomlinson if I was sitting at No. 2. In eight seasons he has started all but 1 game.. And when he was banged up last year he still ranked 6th for running backs in fantasy points with 212, 21 points behind third place Peterson. Considering that Turner/Williams most likely had career seasons, I like Tomlinson as a top-3 this year.
1.08: Marc Caviglia – Brian Westbrook (Phi) - Even if he misses a few games to injury Westbrook still has the tools and supporting cast to be a true RB1. Expect 10+ TD’s and over 1,400 total yards from the veteran in a high powered offense.
1.09: Larry Joseph – DeAngelo Williams (Car) - Williams is a great value pick at #9. He is coming off a year in which he had over 1,500 rushing yards with 20 total touchdowns, while sharing carries with Jonathan Stewart. Even if he has a dip in production in ‘09, I still expect over 1,300 total yards with 10+ TD’s.
1.10: Michael Whooley – Chris Johnson (Ten) - A slimmer LenDale White will once again steal his TD’s but Johnson’s ability to score anywhere on the field is to great to pass on at the bottom half of Round 1.

B -
Thanks for taking our advice, as always, we’re here to help. Having Forte and White is a great start. Out of the top players you listed, I would consider taking Marion Barber or Steve Smith before Kevin Smith, assuming those other backs are taken before you. As much as I like Kevin Smith, having Forte and Barber as your RBs is more solid. Barber would be my first choice over Steve Smith.
I’d take Steve Smith over Kevin Smith because elite WRs are very rare and valuable this year, and you could have the opportunity to have two of the top 8 WRs in the league. Of course, you have to keep a very close eye on Steve Smith’s injury.
Between Colston and Bowe, I would take Colston. He’s healthy and has Drew Brees passing him the ball. As much as I think Bowe is a gifted receiver, he plays on such a bad team that he may struggle to score a lot. Whether you take Steve Smith, Colston or Bowe, I’m willing to bet Kevin Smith will be off the board by your next pick, but you should still be able to find an adequate RB2. Since you already have Roddy White, as I said earlier, my first choice would be to take Barber and then the next best WR with your next pick.
Hope that helps and good luck.
