Normal fantasy football leagues have come to an end and what a great season it was. We hope that you did well in your league, or leagues, but if you’re still looking for some fantasy football action while the playoffs go on, and you’re looking for some help then look no further because the Bruno Boys will be here throughout the postseason. As such we’ll be releasing our normal weekly position rankings to help you best decide which players to go with in our Fantasy Football Playoff Challenge. The first iteration will be the quarterbacks and there isn’t a whole lot of surprise in the rankings. To see where all four of the players rank this week continue reading the Championship Round edition of the Bruno Boys Weekly Quarterback Rankings.
We’re now down to the final four in the NFL and there aren’t any major surprises, aside from the New York Jets. It’s now been consecutive seasons in which a rookie quarterback, Mark Sanchez of the Jets this season, has led his team to the AFC title game. Last year it was Joe Flacco of the Baltimore Ravens. Either way, it would be impossible to imagine Sanchez leading the Jets to a win over the Indianapolis Colts this week. Meanwhile, in the NFC, we get to see two dome teams, the Minnesota Vikings and New Orleans Saints, battle it out in the Superdome. Regardless of what happens this weekend it appears we’ll be set for a great Super Bowl match-up, and that’s about all you can ask.
1. Drew Brees (New Orleans Saints) vs. Minnesota
The week off certainly didn’t affect the Saints offense at all. Last week in a blowout win over the Arizona Cardinals, New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees threw for 247 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions. A lot of people were concerned about Brees and the Saints, considering the way they ended the regular season, yet it looked like the Saints players had completely forgotten about that. This is an elite offense that’s impossible to completely stop, and though the Vikings have a great defense, Brees is the type of guy who can get it done against them. Besides, Minnesota’s defensive weakness is pass coverage, and Brees will be able to exploit that.
Point Projection: 21 Points
2. Peyton Manning (Indianapolis Colts) vs. New York Jets
Of course a big deal will be made this week about the week 16 match-up between the Colts and the Jets. In that game, Indianapolis took an early lead but then benched quarterback Peyton Manning as well as some other key players. Manning and the other players weren’t happy about it and pouted on the sidelines as the Jets came from behind to win a road game and keep their playoff hopes alive. Now, the Jets head back to Indianapolis, this time for the AFC championship game, but the results will be different this time around. This is the type of game Manning thrives in, and one a team with a rookie quarterback, such as the Jets, will struggle in. The Jets do have a great defense, but it is one Manning will be able to figure out. After all, Darrelle Revis can’t cover everybody and as often as the Jets blitz there will always be a Colt open.
Point Projection: 19 Points
3. Brett Favre (Minnesota Vikings) @ New Orleans
No stranger to pressure situations, Minnesota quarterback Brett Favre will be ready for the challenge that is playing in the Superdome. Though his team may not come out as winners against the Saints, Favre will still have a good game. The Vikings offense is operating at a high level right now, and though the running game has been somewhat inconsistent recently, Favre has had no trouble finding open guys on the deep ball. The thing that scares us about this match-up is how good the Saints are at intercepting passes. If the Vikings go down early, Favre could easily go into gunslinger mode and that’s not always been a good thing.
Point Projection: 18 Points
4. Mark Sanchez (New York Jets) @ Indianapolis
It’s been a great run for Sanchez and the Jets so far, but this week is when it will all comes to end. The Jets have been able to take care of business with good defense and some big contributions from the running game. Though Sanchez has been solid, he really hasn’t been asked to do a whole lot. Most of his throws have come on slants and designed roll outs, plays that are not only relatively safe ones but are also easy for a young quarterback to make. It’s likely the Colts will grab an early lead in this game, forcing New York to play from behind, and when the Jets have done that, the interceptions have piled up for Sanchez.
Point Projection: 10 Points
