2009 Fantasy Football Draft Sheet
2009 Fantasy Football Draft Sheet

Normal fantasy football leagues have come to an end and what a great season it was. We hope that you did well in your league, or leagues, but if you’re still looking for some fantasy football action while the playoffs go on, and you’re looking for some help then look no further because the Bruno Boys will be here throughout the postseason. As such we’ll be releasing our normal weekly position rankings to help you best decide which players to go with in our Fantasy Football Playoff Challenge. To see where this round’s tight ends rank continue reading the Championship Round edition of the Bruno Boys Weekly Tight End Rankings.

The final four has been decided with the Minnesota Vikings heading to the Superdome to take on the New Orleans Saints on the NFC side, while the Indianapolis Colts will play host to the New York Jets on the AFC side of things. Those match-ups mean two of the games best tight ends, Jason Witten and Antonio Gates, are now booking tee times rather than sitting in a position to help you in your Fantasy Football Playoff Challenges. To see what tight ends are left to help your cause and where they stack up, continue reading the Bruno Boys Championship Round Tight End Rankings.

1. Dallas Clark (Indianapolis Colts) vs. New York Jets

Sure, the New York Jets showcased the best pass defense in the regular season, allowing just 8 passing TDs on the year, and yes, they did hold tight ends under wraps, giving up just 4.3 fantasy points per game. Nonetheless, Clark’s play throughout the season secures his spot here as the No. 1 ranked tight end for this weekend’s games. Posting a hearty 163 points, Clark was second in production only behind the San Francisco 49ers’ Vernon Davis, and he shows no sign of slowing down here in the post-season as he hauled in 7 passes for 59 yards in the Colts’ win over the Ravens. It doesn’t hurt matters that Gates just burnt this Jets’ unit for 8 catches and 93 yards last week. Just as Peyton Manning does week in and week out, look Clark’s way this coming weekend.
Point Projection: 13 points

2. Jeremy Shockey (New Orleans Saints) vs. Minnesota **CHECK INJURY STATUS**

After sitting out the Saints’ final three games of the regular season due to injury, Shockey was back at it during the Divisional Round of the playoffs, playing with a swagger that’s been missing since his days in New York. The Saints’ tight end provided the team with an emotional boost and solid play on his way to a three catch, 36-yard day while also finding pay dirt. His numbers could have been even better had New Orleans not jumped out to such a huge lead, causing them to abandon their aerial attack. This weekend, Shockey goes up against a Vikings’ defense that struggled all season long to keep opposing tight ends in check, giving up the 5th most fantasy points to the position at 8.9 points per outing. That combined with the fact that this contest should be a whole lot closer than last weekend’s match-up with the Cardinals make Shockey a solid option come Sunday.
Point Projection: 8 points

3. Visanthe Shiancoe (Minnesota Vikings) @ New Orleans

Shiancoe set a career high in TDs during the regular season with 11. No doubt a big reason for that was the arrival of Brett Favre in Minnesota. After all, it is well known that Favre loves to target his tight ends down in the red zone. That held true last week as Favre hit Shiancoe for an 11-yard score against the Dallas Cowboys. Sadly, that was Shiancoe’s only grab of the game, an indication that the tight end’s value is largely tied to his ability to find pay dirt. That does not bode well for the Vikings’ tight end this weekend as the Saints allowed just one TD to the tight end position all year long.
Point Projection: 6 points

4. Dustin Keller (New York Jets) @ Indianapolis

Despite totaling 118 yards and 2 TDs this post-season, Dustin Keller has to be considered the least talented of all four starting tight ends left standing. To make matters worse, the Jets’ tight end also faces the toughest match-up. During the regular season, the Indianapolis Colts were the best defensive unit when it came to limiting opposing tight ends, giving up a mere 3.1 fantasy points per contest to the position. That solid play included a Week 16 match-up with Keller in which the Colts held Keller to just three catches for 19 yards.
Point Projection: 3 points

5. David Thomas (New Orleans Saints) vs. Minnesota

While Thomas’ name did come up in fantasy circles towards the end of the season with Jeremy Shockey battling injuries, the Saints’ tight end disappeared last week in the team’s playoff game with the Cardinals, as he failed to catch a single pass. With all the targets that Drew Brees has to look to prior to going Thomas’ way, it’s probably best you sit him even in a favorable match-up against the Vikings.
Point Projection: 2 points
