With many of you out there in Bruno Boys Nationplaying our Fantasy Football Playoff Challenge, we want to make sure you enter the Championship Round knowing what players we feel you should play with caution. Obviously it’s your team and your gut, so you are the final decision makers, but if these guys fail to get the job done for your fantasy squad don’t say the Bruno Boys didn’t tell you so. With that being said the Bruno Boys present the Fantasy Football Championship Round Sit Ems.
QUARTERBACKS – SIT ‘EM
Mark Sanchez (New York Jets) @ Indianapolis
Yes, it doesn’t really seem feasible for him to be your starting quarterback this weekend anyways as the other three options really are too good to bench. I mean, would you ever choose Sanchez over the likes of Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, or Brett Favre in a must win game? Any of those three should post between 15-20 fantasy points, with Sanchez in the wings with 8-11 maximum.
RUNNING BACKS – SIT ‘EM
Thomas Jones (New York Jets) @ Indianapolis
Is his reign over? At least for these playoffs it seems like it is. While he may still be the #1 for the 2010 season, it is obvious that Shonn Greene is the hot hand at the moment, becoming the team’s playmaker through these playoffs. As a result, Jones’ numbers have been mediocre at best. The veteran back had 41 rushing yards against San Diego last weekend, and 34 against Cincinnati (but at least he scored a touchdown) two weeks ago. If you’re gonna stick with a Jets RB this weekend, you should set your sights on Greene rather than the veteran Jones.
WIDE RECEIVERS – SIT ‘EM
Bernard Berrian (Minnesota Vikings) @ New Orleans
Berrian has been vaulted from the #1 perch on Minnesota’s depth chart by Sidney Rice, but while he still holds the #2 slot on paper, his numbers have even taken a backseat to rookie wide receiver Percy Harvin. Berrian had 3 catches for 32 yards against the Dallas Cowboys last weekend, and you may be looking at the same numbers for this week’s match-up versus the Saints, as well.
Devery Henderson (New Orleans Saints) vs. Minnesota
It seems like Henderson and Robert Meachem have become interchangeable in this offense, which is never a good thing for fantasy owners. They are both down-field threats, but it’s very difficult to figure out which one will have a good game. We believe Meachem is more talented than Henderson, and therefore should at least be given the benefit of the doubt in this match-up against a physical Minnesota Vikings’ defense.
TIGHT ENDS – SIT ‘EM
Dustin Keller (New York Jets) @ Indianapolis
Believe it or not, the Indianapolis Colts defended the tight end position better than any team in the NFL in 2009. They only allowed 3.1 fantasy points per game to the position as they gave up just 516 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns the entire season to tight ends. Keller has been a valuable source for fantasy points this postseason, averaging 11 points per game in his two playoff match-ups, but he should struggle this weekend.
KICKERS – SIT ‘EM
Matt Stover (Indianapolis Colts) vs. New York Jets
The New York Jets seem to have a special power going against opposing kickers during these playoffs. Perhaps they sacrificed a chicken before their playoff run so that kickers would miss all of their field goal attempts or perhaps it’s just been plain luck, either way kickers are missing against the Jets. While Shayne Graham and Nate Kaeding went 4 for 4 on extra points, the duo went ZERO for 5 on their field goal attempts. Could Stover be next?
DEFENSES – SIT ‘EM
New Orleans Saints D/ST vs. Minnesota & Minnesota Vikings D/ST @ New Orleans
These are two teams that totaled 79 points last weekend combined. The Vikings only allowed three sacks, but did not turn the ball over in their game against the Dallas Cowboys. The Saints allowed zero sacks and zero turnovers, which essentially means zero fantasy points to the Cardinals’ defensive unit. If we had to pick one, we believe Reggie Bush’s return skills could separate the Saints ahead of the Vikings, but either defense in the other game is a better choice than these two squads.
