2009 Fantasy Football Draft Sheet
Fleaflicker NFL Fantasy Football

Normal fantasy football leagues have come to an end and what a great season it was. We hope that you did well in your league, or leagues, but if you’re still looking for some fantasy football action while the playoffs go on, and you’re looking for some help then look no further because the Bruno Boys will be here throughout the postseason. As such we’ll be releasing our normal weekly position rankings to help you best decide which players to go with in our Fantasy Football Playoff Challenge. To see where this round’s kickers rank continue reading the Divisional Round edition of the Bruno Boys Weekly Kicker Rankings.

1. Neil Rackers (Arizona Cardinals) @ New Orleans

If the Arizona Cardinals had lost their overtime shoot out with the Green Bay Packers, the blame would have fallen squarely on the leg of Neil Rackers. Rackers had a chance to put an end to the game at the end of regulation thanks to a 34-yard field goal attempt; however, he choked, knocking the ball wide left. Luckily for the Cardinals’ kicker, Arizona’s defense came up huge securing the game winning score on a fumble recovery on the opening drive of OT. Rackers will now have a chance at redemption as the Cardinals travel to the Super Dome for a date with the New Orleans Saints. With the Cardinals lighting up the scoreboard for 51 points during Wild Card weekend and the Saints giving up 9+ fantasy points to the kicker position in four of their last five games, we like Rackers’ to come through this time around.
Point Projection: 11 points

2. Billy Cundiff (Baltimore Ravens) @ Indianapolis

After being released by the Cleveland Browns earlier this season, Cundiff found a new home with Baltimore and made his debut as a Raven against these very Indianapolis Colts back in week 11. The old saying goes, “You only get one chance to make a first impression,” and Cundiff made the most of his, knocking home 5 of 6 field goals in the game for an astounding 16 fantasy points. Will he match that this week? The Ravens sure hope not as they’d like to punch some of those opportunities into the end zone, but with the ground game clicking and running against a Colts’ unit that ranked 24th against the run during the regular season, the Ravens will move the ball down the field, giving Cundiff a few opportunities for fantasy points.
Point Projection: 10 points

3. Ryan Longwell (Minnesota Vikings) vs. Dallas

No doubt about it, the Dallas Cowboys have been brutal to fantasy kickers of late. Including the two points they allowed to David Akers during Wild Card weekend, the Cowboys have not given up more than 5 fantasy points to the kicker position in any of their last four games. Nonetheless, it’s hard to bet against Longwell this weekend. The Minnesota Vikings scored a staggering 29.4 points per game this season, and with their play makers getting a week off to heal up, we like their chances to be around that number this weekend, which would translate into a solid outing by Longwell.
Point Projection: 10 points

4. Jay Feely (New York Jets) @ San Diego

The San Diego Chargers defense came together during the team’s 11 game winning streak, allowing their opponents to tally over 20 points just three times over that span. Part of the reason for that success was the Chargers bend but don’t break style of play. While team’s were able to move the ball down the field, the Chargers made sure they didn’t get it into the end zone. While that’s bad news for the New York Jets as a whole, it is good news for Feely’s fantasy value.
Point Projection: 8 points

5. Garrett Hartley (New Orleans Saints) vs. Arizona

Hartley’s value this weekend depends largely on what Saints team shows up for this contest. Will it be the unit that started the season off 13-0, or will the team that dropped three games to end the regular season be on the field? It’s hard to say, but playing at home after having a week off to get things right, we think its likely that 13-0 team returns. Still, because of the Saints’ inconsistent play of late, Hartley is definitely a kicker that comes with some risk here in the Divisional Round of the playoffs.
Point Projection: 8 points

6. Nate Kaeding (San Diego Chargers) vs. New York Jets

Nate Kaeding finished the 2009 regular season as the top dog among fantasy kickers, so why are we down on him this weekend? Simple, the New York Jets ended the 2009 regular season allowing the third fewest fantasy points to the kicker position at 5.1 per game. Could Kaeding still do some damage? Of course, but with so many other solid options out there this Divisional round, we’d try to avoid gambling on the Chargers’ kicker.
Point Projection: 6 points

7. Shaun Suisham (Dallas Cowboys) @ Minnesota

Suisham has been solid since joining the Cowboys, connecting on four-of-five field goal opportunities, while adding a healthy nine extra points in three games played for Dallas. Still, we find it a bit difficult to put our trust in Suisham with so many other options to go with. Not only do the Minnesota Vikings limit fantasy kickers’ points, allowing just 6.0 to the position per contest, but Suisham is also the owner of a career field goal percentage of less than 80%.
Point Projection: 6 points

8. Matt Stover (Indianapolis Colts) vs. Baltimore

During his time filling in for Adam Vinatieri, Stover reached double digits in just one of ten games played. Why such poor stats from a kicker on such a high-powered offense? Truth be told, it’s the fact that the Colts are so high-powered that hurt Stover. During his time with Indy, Stover connected on just 9 field goals, while kicking 33 extra points. Plain and simple, the Colts score too many TDs and settle for too few field goals to make Stover a strong fantasy option.
Point Projection: 6 points
