QUARTERBACKS – START ‘EM

Mark Sanchez (New York Jets) vs. Jacksonville

Not only are the Jacksonville Jaguars one of the worst teams against the pass in 2009, but their ability to stop the run is ranked 22nd in the NFL. The only good thing they do on defense is not allow opposing running backs to score at will (evidenced by five touchdowns through eight games). The Jaguars have allowed nearly two passing TDs per contest, have only five interceptions and a league worst eight sacks in 2009. With rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez at the helm and coming off a bye week, you can expect the Jets to be working on all cylinders against a desirable opponent. While the Jets won’t lean on Sanchez to consistently make big plays, you have to like his chances to make it three straight games with two or more TDs in a game.

Joe Flacco (Baltimore Ravens) @ Cleveland

Playing on Monday Night Football, you can expect the Baltimore Ravens will come out swinging after their blowout loss to the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 9. Flacco has been solid (his only two poor outings have come against those same Bengals) this season, and obviously a match-up against a Cleveland Browns defense that allows over 400 yards per game is always a blessing. While we believe Ray Rice is going to be the high scorer on the Ravens, Joe Flacco won’t disappoint. Baltimore may quit throwing early if they get off to a fast start, but not before Flacco does enough to make him a top quarterback play in Week 10. It’s not just Flacco and Rice that produce, but expect Derrick Mason and Todd Heap to benefit from the cushy match-up against a Browns’ defense that allows 26 points per games..

RUNNING BACKS – START ‘EM

Ronnie Brown / Ricky Williams (Miami Dolphins) vs. Tampa Bay

While the Tampa Bay Buccaneers really impressed in Week 9 against the Green Bay Packers, running back Ryan Grant was still able to rush for 96 yards and a score. Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams have both paid big-time dividends this season, and should find ample opportunity as the Dolphins are able to control the clock in this match-up. The Buccaneers are 30th in the NFL having allowed 163 rushing yards and over a touchdown per game, so Brown should be a solid RB1 play while Williams should play a role as a RB2 option.

Jamaal Charles (Kansas City Chiefs) @ Oakland

Six carries and nine total touches was disappointing for fantasy football owners who hoped to take advantage of Jamaal Charles taking over the “main” running back position in Kansas City last week. However, it comes down to his total production, and while 36 yards rushing and 19 receiving yards is nothing special, he was still able to muster over six yards per touch. In Week 10, Charles has the pleasure of going up against the NFL leader in rushing touchdowns allowed with 13 through eight games; the Oakland Raiders. As bad as the Raiders have been against the rush, they have also been quite solid against the pass in 2009, meaning that quarterback Matt Cassel could be forced to hand the ball off to the Charles, and backup Kolby Smith. While it seems like Charles is just a RB3/Flex, his solid match-up against the Raiders makes him a nice Week 10 plug-n-play. Expect Charles to have 70-80 total yards and if he can find pay dirt his fantasy points could rival those of RB2 plays for the week.

Knowshon Moreno (Denver Broncos) @ Washington

It’s hard to know what to make of the Washington Redskins. On one hand, their pass defense has been top notch (1st in the NFL in passing yards allowed), but on the other hand, their rush defense has been near the bottom. Josh McDaniels’ offense has been stagnant since coming off a bye, and they will need to establish the run game to open up things for quarterback Kyle Orton. Despite a lackluster performance in Week 9 (five carries for three yards), Moreno’s overall numbers have been slightly above average (sans the fumble woes), but if given 15-20 touches he had been getting leading up last week, Moreno could get back on track against a Redskins rushing defense that allows 4.2 yards per carry and 126 rushing yards per game.
