WIDE RECEIVERS — CUT THEM LOOSE

Johnny Knox (Chicago Bears)

A hot waiver wire pick up early this season, Knox averaged a healthy nine fantasy points per outing through the Bears’ first five games. Over the Bears’ last three contests, the wide out has averaged just 3.7 fantasy points per game.

Knox’s dip in production corresponds directly with the improved rapport between quarterback, Jay Cutler, and wide receiver, Devin Hester. With some time under center for Chicago, Cutler seems to have figured out that Hester is the team’s best playmaker, which does not bode well for Knox’s value moving forward as the wide receiver’s skill set is very similar to that of Hester’s. Knox has averaged just four catches a game this season and is in jeopardy of seeing that number drop. Don’t rely on the big play or a cheap TD for your playoff push; drop Knox for someone more consistent.

Torry Holt (Jacksonville Jaguars)

The former fantasy stud led many owners to believe that he still had something left in the tank with fantasy outings of 9 and 10 points over weeks five and six of the season. However, following a week seven bye, Holt apparently forgot to refuel.

Over the past two weeks, Holt has just 6 receptions for 54 yards. Making things worse is that those totals came against two of the weaker pass defenses in the league in the 32nd ranked Tennessee Titans and the 30th ranked Kansas City Chiefs. The Jags’ schedule gets a whole lot tougher these next two weeks as they’ll do battle with the 2nd ranked pass defense of the New York Jets and the 11th ranked Buffalo Bills. Holt will be more a hinderance to your playoff push than help, which is why it’s time to put this fantasy legend to rest.

TIGHT ENDS — CUT THEM LOOSE

Spencer Havner (Green Bay Packers)

First and foremost, let us go on record to state that we understand, due to the injuries that are piling up at the tight end position, why you’re plugging Havner into your line-up. I mean, the line backer to tight end convert did have weeks of 11 and 14 fantasy points in weeks seven and eight. However, his goose egg on Sunday shows that Havner is a boom or bust type option and nothing more. With teams catching on to Havner’s role, the busts are going to outweigh the boom going forward.

As you get set for your playoff push, you may want to consider a tight end fill in that will at least get you a couple of points on a weekly basis. Further hurting Havner’s case for a roster spot is the pending return of teammate Jermichael Finley. Havner, now, falls into that “it was fun while it lasted” category.
