QUARTERBACKS — CUT THEM LOOSE

Jay Cutler (Chicago Bears)

With five outings of 17+ fantasy points on the year, Cutler is indeed capable of posting the big game for his fantasy owners, but the Bears’ quarterback is just as likely to put up the dud as he’s tallied five outings of just 10 or less fantasy points on the season. Heading into the fantasy playoffs, Cutler’s owners should proceed with caution. In his last three games, the Bears’ quarterback has averaged just 208.3 passing yards per contest, while throwing a mere 2 TDs to 8 INTs. Cutler just doesn’t have the same weapons he had in Denver; thereby he doesn’t have the same value he had while he was a Bronco. Don’t let’s Cutler’s inconsistencies keep you from your championship.

Keep Them Cut - Mark Sanchez (New York Jets), JaMarcus Russell (Oakland Raiders), Jason Campbell (Washington Redskins), Matthew Stafford (Detroit Lions), Derek Anderson (Cleveland Browns), Trent Edwards (Buffalo Bills), Kerry Collins (Tennessee Titans), Shaun Hill (San Francisco 49ers), Kyle Orton (Denver Broncos)

RUNNING BACKS — CUT THEM LOOSE

Bernard Scott (Cincinnati Bengals)

Scott had another solid day starting for an injured Cedric Benson in week 12, this time going for 87 yards on 18 carries. So, why does he appear on our “Cut Them Loose” list? Simple, the return of Benson is imminent as the Bengals’ back has been close to playing in each of the past two weeks. Even if Benson doesn’t return by next week’s match-up with the Detroit Lions, Scott looks to have already have lost his starting gig. Taking on a much larger role than he had in week 11, Larry Johnson ran like a man reborn in week 12, toting the rock 22 times for 107 yards. With Johnson running well, look for the Bengals to let Scott focus mostly on return duties moving forward.

Brandon Jacobs (New York Giants)

All season long, we have preached patience with Jacobs, but our patience has run out. The New York Giants’ back, like the Giants as a whole, looked awful in week 12 against the Denver Broncos, totaling just 27 rush yards on 11 carries. An outing like this may have been bearable if Jacobs was performing on a high level on a regular basis, but the running back has yet to reach the 100-yard mark in any game this season and has just 3 TDs through 11 games. Chances are if you’re heading to the playoffs, it’s not because Jacobs got you there; hence, you shouldn’t have any guilt in letting him go, especially since three of his remaining five games are against top-10 rush defenses.

Jonathan Stewart (Carolina Panthers)

Stewart may have posted 15+ fantasy points three times this year, but he, also, has five outings of 4 or less fantasy points. As the Panthers’ No. 2 running back, Stewart just isn’t going to consistently get the opportunities he needs to have a steady fantasy impact. Sputtering of late with an average of just 49.3 rush yards per contest over his last five games, Stewart is no longer an every week flex play option. The fantasy playoffs are no time to play around with hit or miss type players such as Stewart.

Keep Them Cut - Marshawn Lynch (Buffalo Bills), Ladell Betts (Washington Redskins), Darren Sproles (San Diego Chargers), Willis McGahee (Baltimore Ravens), Jerome Harrison (Cleveland Browns), LenDale White (Tennessee Titans), Julius Jones (Seattle Seahawks), Michael Bush (Oakland Raiders), Correll Buckhalter (Denver Broncos), Donald Brown (Indianapolis Colts)
