Alge Crumpler going for 10 fantasy points? What is this 2006? Chances are that Crumpler doesn’t hit the double digit plateau again in week 15. In fact, he’s not even in our Bruno Boys Fantasy Football Week 15 Tight End Rankings. To find out who is, just continue reading.
1. Vernon Davis (San Francisco 49ers) @ Philadelphia
Davis’ string of catching exactly six passes for at least 65 yards ended at three games when he managed just three receptions for 34 yards on Monday. However, he did catch a touchdown in the 49ers’ upset win over the Cardinals and has now done so in four straight games. This week, he faces the Eagles, who have allowed more catches to opposing tight ends than any other team in the league, as well as the second-most receiving yards and second-most touchdowns (tied w/ two other teams).
Point Projection: 14 points
2. Antonio Gates (San Diego Chargers) vs. Cincinnati
Gates caught four passes for 44 yards and one score last week as the Chargers took down the Cowboys. It was Gates’ third straight game with at least 10 fantasy points, and that’s the type of production you need to ride into the fantasy playoffs, especially because the Bengals have allowed the seventh-most receptions to opposing tight ends.
Point Projection: 13 points
3. Fred Davis (Washington Redskins) vs. New York Giants
Hear us out before thinking we lost our mind ranking Davis this high. He had three receptions for 50 yards last week against Oakland, and scored two touchdowns. He’s scored in three consecutive games now, and in two of those games, including last week, the team had not allowed an opposing tight end to score all season. This week, he plays the Giants, who pretty much ignore tight ends, considering they’ve allowed the most receiving yards in the league to opposing players at that position, as well as the second-most receptions, and the second-most touchdowns (tied).
Point Projection: 12 points
4. Dallas Clark (Indianapolis Colts) @ Jacksonville
Clark still hasn’t gone above 65 receiving yards since Week 9, but he more than made up for last week’s 43 yards (on five catches) with three touchdown receptions. The Jaguars are a tough match-up for all tight ends, as only two teams have allowed fewer touchdowns to opposing players at that position, and just six teams have allowed fewer receiving yards.
Point Projection: 12 points
5. Jason Witten (Dallas Cowboys) @ New Orleans
After two promising contests, Witten reverted back to his mediocre self last week, catching four passes for 49 yards. He still hasn’t scored since Week 2, and the Saints have allowed the fewest touchdowns (tied w/ one other team) to opposing tight ends in the league, but we think this game could be a Saturday night shootout, leaving open many possibilities for Witten to do damage.
Point Projection: 11 points
6. Tony Gonzalez (Atlanta Falcons) @ New York Jets
Gonzalez caught six passes for 50 yards last week in a loss to the Saints, and he’s accumulated at least 50 yards in each of his last five games , but we have to admit that this match-up is a bit worrisome, at least as much as you can worry about a productive future Hall of Fame tight end. The Jets have allowed the fifth-fewest receptions to opposing tight ends this season and only two teams have allowed fewer touchdown passes to players at that position.
Point Projection: 10 points
7. Kellen Winslow (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) @ Seattle
Winslow led the Bucs with an unimpressive four catches and 26 receiving yards last week, but there’s a lot to like about the opponent he’s facing this week. Seattle has trouble stopping the pass in general, and it shows in their attempts to cover opposing tight ends – only three teams have given up more receptions to players at that position than the Seahawks.
Point Projection: 10 points
8. Brent Celek (Philadelphia Eagles) vs. San Francisco
Celek has been highly productive overall this season, and last week caught five passes for 64 yards while also scoring a touchdown for the second consecutive game. However, expecting him to score for three straight games is asking a lot – the 49ers have allowed the fewest touchdowns (tied) in the league to opposing tight ends.
Point Projection: 9 points
9. Heath Miller (Pittsburgh Steelers) vs. Green Bay
Last week, Miller was second among Steelers players with five receptions and 59 yards, somewhat making up for two previous games of utter disappointment. His match-up this week with the Packers is a good one. Green Bay has allowed the fifth-most touchdowns (tied) to opposing tight ends.
Point Projection: 8 points
10. Dustin Keller (New York Jets) vs. Atlanta
Keller has combined for only two receptions for eight yards over his last two games, but he has one of the best match-ups of any tight end this week. The Falcons have allowed more receptions to opposing tight ends than all but three other teams in the league, and more receiving yards and touchdowns than all but four other teams.
Point Projection: 8 points
11. Bo Scaife (Tennessee Titans) vs. Miami
Scaife caught four passes for 43 yards last week as the Titans blew away the Rams, 47-7. It was the fourth consecutive game in which Scaife has caught at least four passes, and the third consecutive game he racked up at least 40 receiving yards. He has an excellent match-up this week against the Dolphins, who have allowed the third-most receiving yards in the league to opposing tight ends.
Point Projection: 7 points
12. Visanthe Shiancoe (Minnesota Vikings) @ Carolina
Shiancoe caught just two passes for 19 yards last week against the Bengals and saw his streak of consecutive games with a touchdown catch end at three. He’s only caught a total of four passes for fewer than 40 yards the past two weeks, so we expect him to get back to putting up more respectable digits this week.
Point Projection: 7 points
13. Greg Olsen (Chicago Bears) @ Baltimore
Olsen has been a non-factor for two consecutive weeks now. He caught two passes for 14 yards last week, and over his last two games has a total of four catches for 15 yards. He should probably be lower in the rankings, but we find it hard to believe that he’ll keep putting up such dismal numbers, even in a tough match-up.
Point Projection: 6 points
14. Jeremy Shockey (New Orleans Saints) vs. Dallas
Shockey caught four of the six passes Drew Brees tossed his way, and he compiled 46 yards with those catches. This week, expect a lot of scoring with two offenses capable of putting up a bunch of points going at it, and that means lots of passing, and we know how much the Brees like to spread the wealth among his receiving options.
Point Projection: 6 points
15. Jermichael Finley (Green Bay Packers) @ Pittsburgh
You have every reason to want to play Finley this week, especially after he gashed Chicago for 70 yards on five catches, but the Steelers don’t make life easy on opposing tight ends. Pittsburgh has allowed fewer receptions to opposing tight ends than all but five other teams in the league.
Point Projection: 5 points
