In a pinch for a skill player that will produce at a high level during your fantasy football championship, but not sure what route to go? Well, no need to fret the small stuff because the Bruno Boys will help make your lineup decision easier. From Quarterbacks to Defenses, we have you covered on who you should feel comfortable about plugging into your Week 16 lineup. Now, it’s time to cut to the chase and read our Fantasy Football Week 16 Start Ems advice.
QUARTERBACKS – START ‘EM
Alex Smith (San Francisco 49ers) vs. Detroit
Going up against the Detroit Lions’ defense is always an excuse to start your fantasy quarterback. The Lions allow 18.3 fantasy points per game to the QB position (worst in the NFL), and Alex Smith has shown that he can be a viable option when a solid match-up presents itself. Smith has averaged over 15 points per game in the last five outings even with a couple below-average games thrown in. Add to everything that fact that Smith will be trying to prove he deserves the starting spot in 2010 these last two weeks, and it’s not a bad idea to take a flier on a guy with the Lions on the docket.
Philip Rivers (San Diego Chargers) @ Tennessee
The AFC playoff picture is an absolute mess (6 teams tied at 7-7), and the Tennessee Titans are one of those teams trying to vie for a playoff spot. The Chargers’ Philip Rivers has solidified himself as a fantasy stud this season (not opposed to last season when he was the 4th best passer) as the 5th best quarterback in standard fantasy leagues. He goes up against a Titans’ defense that ranks 3rd worst in points allowed to opposing QBs, giving up 16.5 fantasy points to the QB position through 14 games. Making this match-up even more appealing is the fact that the Titans gave up 16 points to QB Chad Henne in week 15. Rivers should see a big game ahead of him in week 16.
Tom Brady (New England Patriots) vs. Jacksonville
After being one of our big Sit ‘Ems in week 15, Brady should rebound from a quarterbacking performance he must forget. How badly did Brady play in week 15? Keith Null, Drew Stanton and Ryan Fitzpatrick bested Brady’s 7 fantasy point performance. As long as you’re still in the fantasy playoff hunt, Brady should make up for the forgettable performance as he faces a Jaguars defense that Peyton Manning shredded for 26 fantasy points in week 15. Being a must-win game for the Patriots, expect them to throw all over a Jaguars pass defense that is 4th worst in the NFL having allowed nearly 16 points per game to the QB position.
RUNNING BACKS – START ‘EM
Jason Snelling (Atlanta Falcons) vs. Buffalo
Perhaps it is finally time for the Falcons to shut down their stud running back and go with Snelling for the rest of the season. Snelling filled in admirably in Turner’s absence, posting three 15+ point games through the last six weeks. He goes up against a Buffalo Bills’ run defense this coming week that ranks last allowing nearly 25 fantasy points per game to opposing RBs. In a big week 16 match-up for you, it is extremely important to keep up with injury statuses (if Turner plays, he could be in for a great match-up, but it’s evident they may be rushing him back for no reason). As long as Snelling is starting, he could prove to be extremely valuable with a performance that might clinch your fantasy championship.
Cedric Benson (Cincinnati Bengals) vs. Kansas City
How big could Benson be in your most important match-up this season? Well, let’s not go overboard, it’s not like the Kansas City Chiefs have given up that many points to the running back position…but in week 15, they did allow 298 total yards and 3 touchdowns to Jerome Harrison. Cedric Benson should take his Bengals on his back in week 16, and it will lead to many fantasy championships. If the Chiefs gave up 47 fantasy points to Jerome Harrison, a 30-point game to Cedric Benson seems like a guarantee. Make sure you get him in your line-up.
Jerome Harrison (Cleveland Browns) vs. Oakland
What a game Harrison had against the Kansas City Chiefs in week 15 (see: Cedric Benson). Head coach Eric Mangini should feed the ball early and often to Harrison in week 16 against a horrendous Oakland Raiders’ rush defense that has allowed over 22 fantasy points per game to the running back. While 298 total yards and 3 touchdowns may be extreme, at least you know he does have the capability. Especially with Brady Quinn out, the Browns must feed Harrison the ball 25+ times to win this game, and if they do just that, he should be able to run all over the Raiders defense.
