2009 Fantasy Football Draft Sheet

17. Kris Brown (Houston Texans) vs. New England

Brown has been on a nice tear of late, racking up 8+ fantasy points in each of his last three contests as the Texans continue their playoff push. Unfortunately, it will be difficult for Brown to continue the hot streak in Week 17 as the Patriots allow the fewest fantasy points to the kicker position, giving up a mere 4.8 points per contest.
Point Projection: 7 points

18. Dan Carpenter (Miami Dolphins) vs. Pittsburgh

With Chad Henne’s continued development, Carpenter has seen a return to fantasy relevance of late as he’s notched 7 or more fantasy points in three of his last four games, including two double digit outings. The Steelers, though, have only given up two double digit performances to the kicker position on the year, so it’s best to look elsewhere in Week 17.
Point Projection: 7 points

19. Connor Barth (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) vs. Atlanta

No one can accuse of the Buccaneers of mailing it in. Despite playing for nothing but pride, the team has won its last two games, including a stunning 20-17 upset win over the New Orleans Saints just last weekend. Benefiting from the team’s hard play has been kicker Connor Barth, who has notched 9 and 10 fantasy points over the last two weeks respectively. He won’t be near those numbers in Week 17, but he is a mid-tier option for those fantasy owners in deeper leagues.
Point Projection: 6 points

20. Garrett Hartley (New Orleans Saints) @ Carolina

Despite claiming earlier this week that the Saints would go all out in their Week 17 match-up with the Carolina Panthers, head coach Sean Payton has apparently changed his mind as he’s announced that Drew Brees will be the team’s No. 3 QB on Sunday. Without Brees leading the charger, the Saints offense won’t be its usual potent self, leading to a down day for Hartley.
Point Projection: 6 points

21. Rian Lindell (Buffalo Bills) vs. Indianapolis

Sure, the Colts will likely rest the majority of their regulars, but even their second string squad should be able to keep the Buffalo Bills’ lackluster offense in check. After all, the Bills’ offensive unit is averaging a mere 15.2 points per game on the year. Do yourself a favor and avoid Lindell, just as you should have been doing all season long.
Point Projection: 6 points

22. Phil Dawson (Cleveland Browns) vs. Jacksonville

Don’t look now, but Phil Dawson is riding a streak of double digit fantasy outings. Sure, it’s been just two games in a row that he’s tallied more than 10 fantasy points, but kicking for a Browns’ offense that has averaged just 14.8 points per game this year, that is an accomplishment. Despite his recent success, though, we just can’t put our trust in Dawson for this crucial week of fantasy action, especially with Jaguars allowing five or less fantasy points to opposing kickers in each of their last four contests.
Point Projection: 6 points

23. Josh Scobee (Jacksonville Jaguars) @ Cleveland

Connecting on just 65.4% of his field goal tries this year, Scobee is in no way a reliable kicking option. That’s why, despite a match-up with the Cleveland Browns, a team that has allowed the fifth most fantasy points to the kicking position, Scobee still can’t even crack our top-20.
Point Projection: 6 points

24. Mason Crosby (Green Bay Packers) @ Arizona

Any other week of the season, and this match-up between the Green Bay Packers and Arizona Cardinals would have shoot out written all over it. However, with both teams potentially resting their studs, it’s safe to say that these two teams won’t be lighting up the scoreboard as they usually do. As such, it’s probably best to avoid Crosby in this weekend’s action.
Point Projection: 5 points

25. Shaun Suisham (Dallas Cowboys) vs. Philadelphia

Suisham gets set to face the Philadelphia Eagles for the third time this season this weekend. His previous two outings came while the kicker was a member of the Washington Redskins and both resulted in six point outings. We don’t quite see him reaching that total here while a member of the Cowboys as Dallas will be able to get the ball into the end zone, but he won’t be too far off.
Point Projection: 5 points

26. Matt Stover (Indianapolis Colts) @ Buffalo

A setback suffered by Colts’ kicker Adam Vinatieri has allowed Matt Stover to once again assume kicking duties for Indy. Normally, that would make him a strong fantasy play with the Colts averaging 27.3 points per game, but with the Colts resting their studs in Week 17 that isn’t the case this weekend.
Point Projection: 4 points

27. Jason Hanson (Detroit Lions) vs. Chicago

Hanson doesn’t get a ton of opportunities kicking for the inept offense of the Detroit Lions, so it’s absolutely a must that he capitalize on his opportunities - something he’s failed to do this season as he’s hitting field goals at just a 72% clip. In a previous match-up with Chicago this season, Hanson had just six fantasy points. Fantasy owners should consider themselves lucky if he hits that total again in Week 17.
Point Projection: 4 points

28. Shayne Graham (Cincinnati Bengals) @ New York Jets

Let’s see here…a chance the Bengals rest their big names…a match-up in the Meadowlands where strong winds are expected…a battle with a New York Jets’ defense that is allowing opposing kickers just 5.5 points a contest…it’s not adding up to a good week for Graham!
Point Projection: 4 points

29. Olindo Mare (Seattle Seahawks) vs. Tennessee

Hitting on over 90% of his attempts, Mare has been solid all season long for the Seattle Seahawks. Unfortunately for him and his fantasy owners, the Seahawks apparently thought the season ended weeks ago as the team has failed to notch more than 10 points in any of the past three weeks. Look for that trend to continue against a Titans’ team that is playing their season out in full.
Point Projection: 4 points

30. Neil Rackers (Arizona Cardinals) vs. Green Bay **CHECK INJURY STATUS**

Rackers will return in this one; however, if the Minnesota Vikings win during Sunday’s first round of games, the Cardinals will be a meaningless game and this could hinder his fantasy value. We’re staying away in their match-up with the Packers, a team that has limited opposing kickers to the second fewest fantasy points this season.
Point Projection: 4 points

31. Graham Gano (Washington Redskins) @ San Diego

After notching 12 fantasy points in his first game as the Redskins’ kicker, Gano has tallied a goose egg in both contests he’s played in since. Really, do we need to say anything more?
Point Projection: 3 points

32. Josh Brown (St. Louis Rams) vs. San Francisco

While Gano has put up zero fantasy points in his last two contests, he at least hasn’t been in the negatives yet, something Brown has done twice the season, including his first match-up with the 49ers back in Week 4. The Rams are averaging just 11.3 points per game this season, which is a number that could dip even further following Week 17’s action. Plain and simple, Brown is not a kicker you want to own in the world of fantasy football.
