Week after week fantasy football owners make the wrong decisions on who to start and who to sit. It can be one of the most frustrating things in fantasy football. Your bench puts up 89 points, and your starters put up 39 points. It’s happened to everyone, so while it’s completely frustrating, you’re not the only one who is dealing with these problems from time to time.
With that being said it’s now time to pay attention to our Fantasy Football Week 7 Sit ‘Ems advice so you can make the right decisions on who to place on your bench this week.
QUARTERBACKS – SIT ‘EM
Kurt Warner (Arizona Cardinals) @ New York Giants
As we mentioned in our Week 7 Start ‘Em article, the Arizona Cardinals struggles have been well monitored when they fly back to the East Coast. Kurt Warner unfortunately has to face the still top rated New York Giants pass defense (to still be No.1 after allowing Drew Brees to throw for 369 yards and 4 TDs is impressive). While we agree the Giants feasted on cupcake opponents the first five weeks of the season we fully expect them to regroup on their home turf and put together a solid defensive game to make up for the embarrassing loss in Week 6. Warner has been a solid fantasy quarterback in 2009, but to expect anything over 250 yards and two scores would be wishful thinking. And even if he reaches those totals you have to assume he will be good for a few turnovers which will hinder his final fantasy football point totals. Start at your own risk!
Tony Romo (Dallas Cowboys) vs. Atlanta
It seems like every other week we have Tony Romo in our Start or Sit article. It’s hard to know how the Cowboys are going to come out the gates after their bye week, but the Atlanta Falcons proved that they are one of the best in the NFC after two strong wins against the San Francisco 49ers and Chicago Bears on back to back weeks. To say the Falcons did a great job at containing the pass against Chicago would not be fair, as quarterback Jay Cutler had 300 passing yards, 2 TDs, 2 INTs, but they have only given up 5 passing TDs through their first five games in 2009. Romo’s magical game in Week 5 with Miles Austin (250 yards, 2 TDs) figures to be a long shot this week, so don’t be surprised if the Cowboys signal caller is held in check playing in front of the home crowd in the palace that Jerry Jones built.
Potential Bust Pick: Matt Schaub (Houston Texans) vs. San Francisco
Before you call us crazy for even listing Schaub on a Sit ‘Em article read on. We understand that Schaub has cemented himself in the top 5-7 for fantasy football quarterback purposes, but after the whooping that the 49ers took against Atlanta Falcons in Week 5, expect the 49ers defense to try and right the ship. Coming off of their bye week, and having two weeks to prepare for a high powered Houston Texans offense, it seems evident that Mike Singletary will attempt to light a fire under his defense for playing so poorly, and they may force Schaub into making some bad passes. The 49ers have only allowed six passing touchdowns through five games, so even though Schaub’s 14 TDs eclipse that mark, expecting another 350 yard, 4 TD output is probably not in the cards. You probably don’t have the guts to bench Schaub, and we don’t suggest you do it unless you have a top option (Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Philip Rivers) to replace him, with but don’t say we didn’t tell you so if he doesn’t meet his lofty expectations.
RUNNING BACKS – SIT ‘EM
Ahmad Bradshaw (New York Giants) vs. Arizona
The Arizona Cardinals rank 1st in the NFL in rushing defense allowing less than 60 yards per game and only 2.8 yards per carry. Bradshaw has been dynamite the past two weekends going for 28 fantasy points in Week 5 and 10 fantasy points in Week 6 but this match-up doesn’t bode well for the playmaker. Even with Brandon Jacobs struggling and Bradshaw continuing to cut into his workload you can expect the Giants to try and lay it on the Cardinals with a heavy dose of passing. After all, the Cardinals rank towards the bottom in the league against the pass and allow over 250 passing yards per game on defense. Bradshaw could still be used as a flex option, but don’t expect him to find ample room to run against a Cardinals defense that has shut down the ground game of big named running backs like Frank Gore, Maurice Jones-Drew and Steve Slaton thus far.
Matt Forte (Chicago Bears) @ Cincinnati
Oh, how a top five fantasy football pick has fallen. He has been unimpressive through his fice weeks thus far in 2009, only posting one above average game against the lowly Detroit Lions. Cincinnati is ranked 11th in the NFL against the rush allowing just 96.8 yards per game and only 3 rushing touchdowns through six games. While some may think Forte is due to have another breakout game, we expect Jay Cutler to try and throw over the 28th ranked Cincinnati Bengals pass defense. Forte may still be seeing the bulk of the carries, but he has not produced like a top pick (or a top-60 pick) and until he starts doing some damage in the red zone you will have to rely on strictly yardage points.
Ronnie Brown (Miami Dolphins) vs. New Orleans
Brown has been one of the most consistent fantasy football producers in 2009, posting three games of 20+ fantasy points. We believe if Drew Brees can come out and play like he did against a better New York Giants pass defense in Week 6, then the Miami Dolphins will have to revert to the pass sooner than later and start relying on the arm of QB Chad Henne. The Dolphins have controlled the clock well in 2009, but they haven’t faced the best offensive team in the NFL yet. With the Dolphins down early, the 5th ranked Saints rush defense should halt most of their progress on the ground forcing Brown to have to gain some fantasy points through the air. Quick Note: The Saints are the only team in the NFL to not allow a rush of over 20 yards this season.

I have two disagreements with you guys…and a few other sites. Mostly it comes on the level of Run Defenses for the Cardinals and Saints. I expect that both the Saints and the Cardinals Run defenses benefit from early large leads. If the Giants can hold the Cards to no points early, their running game will still prosper…and if Miami can control the ball on the ground and hold the clock advantage they will also do well…I’m playing my Giant’s and Dolphins backs.
