2009 Fantasy Football Draft Sheet
2009 Fantasy Football Draft Sheet

14. Joe Flacco (Baltimore Ravens) @ Cincinnati

Thus far the Cincinnati defense is the only one to keep Flacco under 10 fantasy football points. The Bengals are the epitome of the bend-but-don’t-break defense as they are 31st against the pass but an impressive sixth in points allowed. Don’t expect the Bengals to be able to keep Flacco under wraps as well as they did in the previous meeting, but if the Bengals continue to keep opponents out of the end zone it will be another week with a mediocre fantasy football performance from the Baltimore quarterback.
Point Projection: 14 points

15. Kyle Orton (Denver Broncos) vs. Pittsburgh

Last week was the first game Denver Broncos quarterback Kyle Orton had been held to 10 or less fantasy football points, and it was also the first loss of the season for the BrincosP. This week Orton faces another tough matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers, but the benefit for Denver is that the game will played at home. Two of Orton’s three biggest fantasy football performances this season have come at home and those came against solid defenses in the New England Patriots and Dallas Cowboys. Expect the Steelers to keep Orton limited, but he will do just enough to break double digit fantasy points this week.
Point Projection: 12 points

16. Matt Ryan (Atlanta Falcons) vs. Washington

Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan struggled last week in a close loss to the New Orleans Saints, a team who leads the league in interceptions. This week Ryan returns home, though he’ll have to play against the Washington Redskins, who are second in passing yards allowed and fifth in points allowed. Ryan did have three interceptions last week, though one came off a tipped ball and the other came on a Hail Mary pass at the very end of the game. Expect Roddy White to get his weekly touchdown and for Tony Gonzalez to be a solid yardage play but the Redskins secondary is the real deal and Ryan is better suited as a QB2 in a league that starts two.
Point Projection: 12 points

17. Eli Manning (New York Giants) vs. San Diego

The last three weeks have been a struggle for Manning as he’s thrown three touchdowns and six interceptions in those games, good for two single-digit fantasy football performances. Something is going on with the offense, and though Manning should return to respectability against a hit or miss San Diego Chargers defense this week, don’t expect him to return to early season form until we see that things have been fixed in New York.
Point Projection: 12 points

18. Alex Smith (San Francisco 49ers) vs. Tennessee

Smith started his first game since 2007 and threw for 198 yards with a touchdown and an interception on the road against one of the league’s best defenses in the Indianapolis Colts. Smith may never make good on the talent that made him the top pick of the draft but the fact is this is the most talent he’s had on offense since he’s been a 49er. The Tennessee Titans are last in passing yards allowed and last in points allowed, but until Smith proves he is beyond his turnover issues, you shouldn’t expect the perfect game. Still if you are in a bind at the quarterback position or must start two quarterbacks you should be fairly confident about rolling with the ex No.1 overall draft pick.
Point Projection: 12 points

19. David Garrard (Jacksonville Jaguars) vs. Kansas City

For as consistent as Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback David Garrard was two years ago, a season that earned him a contract extension, he has been quite inconsistent since then. The last three weeks Garrard has posted two single-digit games. The Kansas City Chiefs don’t exactly have a good defense, but until we see some consistency among the Jaguars offense Garrard will remain in the lower half of the quarterback rankings. Start at your own risk.
Point Projection: 11 points

20. Matt Cassel (Kansas City Chiefs) @ Jacksonville

Kansas City is coming off a bye and they need every bit of time they can get to try to right the ship on offense. In the game prior to the bye week, Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel threw for just 97 yards with three interceptions and one touchdown. Despite the week off there’s no reason to think Cassel and the Kansas City offense magically got better. In Week 9, starting Cassel would be a risky play even against a Jacksonville Jaguars defense that has allowed 13 passing touchdowns in five games.
Point Projection: 10 points

21. Matt Stafford (Detroit Lions) @ Seattle

Detroit quarterback Matt Stafford returned to action last week from his knee injury to throw for 168 yards with one interception and no touchdowns, though he did have a rushing touchdown. This week he’ll go on the road to Seattle, which is one of the toughest places to play, especially when the elements are at work. It’s good to see Stafford back so soon after what appeared to be a devastating knee injury earlier in the season, but he’s not going to be a factor in fantasy football this season. Dynasty owners keep him stashed on your bench while all other owners should use his roster spot for depth elsewhere.
Point Projection: 8 points

22. Vince Young (Tennessee Titans) @ San Francisco

Young got the call for the Titans last week and led them to their first win of the season with an conservative but efficient game where he was 15-for-18 for 125 passing yards and a touchdown. However, Young wasn’t asked to do a whole lot besides not turn the ball over and this week he’s faced with an aggressive San Francisco defense that is 13th in the league in points allowed. Expect head coach Jeff Fisher to have a similar gameplan and for Young to have a pedestrian showing in San Francisco.
Point Projection: 7 Points

23. Chad Henne (Miami Dolphins) @ New England

Since his big game against the New York Jets in Week 5, Miami Dolphins quarterback Chad Henne has struggled as he’s accumulated just 12 fantasy football points in the last two games. The Dolphins travel to New England this week, and the Patriots are fifth in passing yards allowed and third in points allowed. Thus, Henne should not be anywhere near your fantasy football lineup this week.
Point Projection: 8 points

24. Jason Campbell (Washington Redskins) @ Atlanta

Things continue to go south for the Washington Redskins and quarterback Jason Campbell as the team has now stripped head coach Jim Zorn, who was originally brought in to be the team’s offensive coordinator, of his playcalling duties. Against a tough Philadelphia Eagles defense Campbell had a solid performance two weeks ago before the bye week, but still the offense in Washington is one of the league’s worst. Playing at Atlanta won’t do any favors for Campbell and despite allowing 35 points the Falcons were able to pressure the quarterback and force turnovers in Week 8.
Point Projection: 7 points

25. Josh Freeman (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) vs. Green Bay

Still winless on the season the Buccaneers have turned to Josh Freeman at quarterback, the team’s third change at the position this season. Freeman, a rookie out of Kansas State, is a guy with great potential but was known in college for being raw and inconsistent. Given how bad the Tampa Bay offense has been, and that Freeman is making his first professional start, there’s not much to like here, unless you are an owner of the Green Bay Packers defense.
Point Projection: 5 points

26. Jake Delhomme / Matt Moore (Carolina Panthers) @ New Orleans  **CHECK INJURY STATUS**

Carolina quarterback Jake Delhomme was playing alright last week before leaving the game with a chest injury. The injury appears minor and reports from the Panthers suggest Delhomme should be able to play this week. If he cannot, then Matt Moore will take his place. Given how often the Panthers throw interceptions, and how often the New Orleans Saints intercept passes, neither Carolina quarterback should be anywhere near your fantasy football radar this week.
Point Projection: 4 points

WEEK 9 BYE WEEK QUARTERBACKS

Derek Anderson / Brady Quinn (Cleveland Browns) - Brady Quinn wasn’t good for the Cleveland Browns this season, but Derek Anderson has been much worse. Anderson has two touchdowns, nine interceptions and a 36.2 quarterback rating to Quinn’s one touchdown, three interceptions and 62.1 quarterback rating. Just saying.

Marc Bulger (St. Louis Rams) - The St. Louis Rams were rewarded with their first win of the season with a bye week this week. Quarterback Marc Bulger only has one game with 10 or more fantasy football points this season, so don’t expect much from here on out.

Trent Edwards (Buffalo Bills) - It appears Buffalo Bills quarterback Trent Edwards is recovered enough from his concussion that he’ll start next week, unless of course he encounters any setbacks this week.

Brett Favre (Minnesota Vikings) - Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre has been brilliant so far this season. Now let’s see if he can avoid a second half of the season meltdown like he did last year for the New York Jets.

JaMarcus Russell (Oakland Raiders) - Oakland Raiders quarterback JaMarcus Russell has no double digit fantasy football games and two negative point efforts this season. Our question to the Oakland Raiders front office is, Why is he still playing?

Mark Sanchez (New York Jets) - Since throwing five interceptions in a loss to the Buffalo Bills in Week 8, Sanchez played well in the last two games as he had 408 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions.
