It’s free and easy to play, so why not keep the magic alive for a few more weeks?
Normal fantasy football leagues have come to an end and what a great season it was. We hope that you did well in your league, or leagues, but if you’re still looking for some fantasy football action while the playoffs go on, and you’re looking for some help then look no further because the Bruno Boys will be here throughout the postseason. As such we’ll be releasing our normal weekly position rankings to help you best decide which players to go with in our Fantasy Football Playoff Challenge. To see where this round’s kickers rank continue reading the Wild Card Round edition of the Bruno Boys Weekly Kickers Rankings.
1. Mason Crosby (Green Bay Packers) @ Arizona
Crosby is a big legged kicker on a high powered offense. That’s what we like to call a recipe for success. When the Packers take on the Arizona Cardinals it will feature two offenses that rank in the top-12 in scoring and two of the games best quarterbacks in Aaron Rodgers and Kurt Warner. This offensive track meet should lead to Crosby converting on enough three pointers and point after touchdowns to be the top kicker on the weekend.
Point Projection: 10 points
2. Stephen Gostkowski (New England Patriots) vs. Baltimore
Gostkowski hasn’t had the kicking chances that fantasy owners’ grew used to over the years but he still did connect on 25 field goals and 47 extra points on the season. His 129 fantasy points ranked tied for fifth at the kicker position and heading into the playoffs you have to like Gostkowski’s chances of being a top play. The Baltimore Ravens have a strong defense but a good passing offense can move the football against them and we expect New England to come out firing on all cylinders. So while Baltimore will bend on defense, they don’t break (3rd in NFL in scoring), which means Gostkowski should see plenty of kicking chances due to some stalled drives from the Patriots.
Point Projection: 9 points
3. David Akers (Philadelphia Eagles) @ Dallas
Alright, we will take partial blame for Akers’ lack of production in Week 17. After praising him in our Week 17 rankings about how he has a field goal in 15 straight games, Akers did the unthinkable and failed to record a fantasy point for the first time this season. Even with a re-match against the Dallas Cowboys you can’t expect Philly’s offense to lay a goose egg on back-to-back weeks and because of this Akers makes for one of the stronger plays at the kicker position. Start this lefty kicker with confidence.
Point Projection: 9 points
4. Jay Feely (New York Jets) @ Cincinnati
There is no other way to say it, Jay Feely is on fire. He has scored 51 fantasy points over his last five games and knocked down 14+ points in three of those games. Last week, he torched the Cincinnati Bengals for 14 fantasy points on three made field goals and while you can’t expect the same production this week. Feely’s a safe choice for your Playoff Challenge lineup. If you use him, expect 2-3 field goals to go along with 2-3 extra points.
Point Projection: 9 points
5. Neil Rackers (Arizona Cardinals) vs. Green Bay
Injuries combined with the Cardinals offense finding the end zone more often then not have led to a disappointing year for Rackers and his fantasy football owners. In 14 games played Rackers scored double-digit fantasy points just three times while attempting two or more FGs in a game only five times. Despite his regular season struggles we expect Rackers to perform better in the playoffs. He scored 30 points in last years playoffs and with this game likely to be one of the most entertaining and high scoring of the weekend you can make a strong case to plug Rackers into your lineup.
Point Projection: 8 points
6. Shaun Suisham (Dallas Cowboys) vs. Philadelphia
The curse of the Dallas Cowboys kicking woes has trickled down to Suisham. Despite a shutout victory over the Philadelphia Eagles last week, Suisham missed a make-able field goal which has the Cowboys on edge about what to do with their kicking game. You can’t expect Dallas to rely on him unless they are inside of 40 yards and because of this his kicking chances could be limited. He will come cheap in your Fantasy Football Playoff Challenge but there is a lot of risk as well..
Point Projection: 7 points
7. Shayne Graham (Cincinnati Bengals) vs. New York Jets
With Graham’s fantasy value heavily relying on which Cincinnati offense will show up it’s probably not worth the investment. The good news is he hasn’t missed a field goal since Week 11. The bad news is that Graham has just 19 fantasy points over his last four games. Don’t expect the Bengals to once again be shutout by the New York Jets but even if they score some points the ceiling of Graham does not compare to kickers that play in high powered offenses.
Point Projection: 6 points
8. Billy Cundiff (Baltimore Ravens) @ New England
Cundiff hasn’t lacked opportunity since being signed by the Ravens in Week 11. In just seven games he attempted 17 field goals and 19 extra point attempts as the Ravens won three of their last four to claim a Wild Card spot in the AFC. However, Cundiff has missed five of those 17 FG attempts and with no team being stingier against kickers than the New England Patriots (4.6 fantasy points per game to kickers) it makes him a tough play considering how many options are available.
