If you didn’t have success in your fantasy football season you just need to relax. Websites everywhere are trying to keep fantasy football alive with postseason play. In fact, the Bruno Boys would like to invite you and your friends to join our league on Fantasy Football Playoff Challenge, where you can try knocking off the experts. It’s free and easy to play, so why not keep the magic alive for a few more weeks?
Normal fantasy football leagues have come to an end and what a great season it was. We hope that you did well in your league, or leagues, but if you’re still looking for some fantasy football action while the playoffs go on, and you’re looking for some help then look no further because the Bruno Boys will be here throughout the postseason. As such we’ll be releasing our normal weekly position rankings to help you best decide which players to go with in our Fantasy Football Playoff Challenge. The first iteration will be the quarterbacks and there isn’t a whole lot of surprise in the rankings. To see where all eight of the players rank this week continue reading the Wild Card Round edition of the Bruno Boys Weekly Quarterback Rankings.
1. Aaron Rodgers (Green Bay Packers) @ Arizona
Two of the league’s better offenses met last week when the Green Bay Packers defeated the Arizona Cardinals, and it was Aaron Rodgers (Kurt Warner played sparingly) who won the quarterback duel. In a win over the Arizona Cardinals, Rodgers threw for 235 yards and a touchdown with no interceptions, and he also had a rushing touchdown. Things tend to be a little tighter in the playoffs but playing in a dome is a boon to both quarterbacks. The good thing for Rodgers this week is that the Cardinals are nursing a number of injuries to defensive players, which is why we like for Rodgers to have a similar performance this week as he did last week.
Point Projection: 19 points
2. Kurt Warner (Arizona Cardinals) vs. Green Bay
Though Rodgers played well last week, Arizona quarterback Kurt Warner did not as he threw for just 96 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions before taking a seat on the bench. Things should be better this week though. Recall back to last season when the Arizona Cardinals played poorly down the stretch after clinching their division and a playoff spot, only to light it up the scoreboard in the playoffs. The reason why Warner isn’t projected higher than Rodgers this week is not only because of how well the Green Bay defense is playing, but also because his top two receivers, Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin, as well as running back Chris Wells, are all nursing injuries and won’t be 100 percent. Still, expect this game to be a shootout and for Warner to get his fantasy points.
Point Projection: 18 points
3. Tom Brady (New England Patriots) vs. Baltimore
There’s no way around it: The loss of wide receiver Wes Welker is going to hurt the New England Patriots offense a lot. A guy who’s averaged 115 catches a season over the past three years, Welker hurt his ACL and MCL in the first quarter of a loss to the Houston Texans last week. Lucky for New England quarterback Tom Brady the Patriots have a solid supporting cast aside from Welker on offense. Julian Edelman will take over for Welker, and he’s looked pretty good in limited action. Last time these two teams met Brady threw for 258 yards with a touchdown and no interceptions. Expect a performance similar to that one this week from Brady.
Point Projection: 16 points
4. Tony Romo (Dallas Cowboys) vs. Philadelphia
This is another matchup of two teams that played against each other last week. If last week is any indication of how this week will go for Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, then it appears he’ll finally get past his playoff woes. Romo, who’s been awful in his limited postseason experiences thus far, threw for 311 yards with two touchdowns and one interception last week in a blowout win over the Philadelphia Eagles. Given how well Romo played for Dallas down the stretch, and how well he played last week against Philadelphia, we would expect another strong performance from him this week. So if you are tempted to roll with Romo in your Playoff Challenge you have our approval.
Point Projection: 15 points
5. Donovan McNabb (Philadelphia Eagles) @ Dallas
Though Philadelphia quarterback Donovan McNabb wasn’t the only Eagle that played poorly last week, he certainly didn’t play well either. Last week McNabb threw for 223 yards but had two fumbles with no touchdowns. Look further back in the season to Week 9 and you’ll see an eerily similar game from McNabb against the Dallas Cowboys when he threw for 227 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. McNabb’s been solid all season long, except when he’s played against Dallas. That’s why we wouldn’t expect anything too much from McNabb this week, but a return to double-digit points is within reach.
Point Projection: 13 points
6. Joe Flacco (Baltimore Ravens) @ New England
While Baltimore quarterback Joe Flacco was solid enough last year as a rookie to lead the Ravens to the AFC championship game, his statistics didn’t really reflect well on him. Flacco has grown a lot since and the offense has improved because of it, especially with the inclusion of running back Ray Rice into the mix. The thing about this game is that Flacco will be on the road in some potentially poor weather in New England and that doesn’t bode well for the Baltimore offense or its quarterback. Look for Baltimore to play a ball control football game that features a lot of Rice and back-up running back Willis McGahee. That’s also why we can’t project Flacco for anything more than 12 fantasy football points.
Point Projection: 12 points
7. Carson Palmer (Cincinnati Bengals) vs. New York Jets
It’s a shame the NFL decided to move the game between the Cincinnati Bengals and New York Jets to the night game last week because it seemed like the Bengals had mailed it in before it even started. Cincinnati quarterback Carson Palmer played very poorly against a energized Jets defense, as he completed just one of his 11 pass attempts for no yards and he had an interception. The good thing for those who might be considering Palmer this week is that the Bengals rolled out to New York with a very vanilla gameplan. Playing at home this week you should expect a better game from Palmer, but the Jets rank No.1 in the NFL against the pass so the ceiling isn’t all that high.
Point Projection: 9 points
8. Mark Sanchez (New York Jets) @ Cincinnati
We’ve seen it before, including last season, when rookie quarterbacks lead their teams to playoff appearances so seeing Mark Sanchez in the postseason shouldn’t be too surprising. The thing about the Jets is that they’re led by a great defense and a very strong running game. Last week the Jets put up 37 points and yet Sanchez threw for 63 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions. He will once again to be asked to take care of the football and be a game manager. Thus, you shouldn’t expect anything from Sanchez this week.
Point Projection: 6 points
