Injuries are the theme of this week’s Waiver Wire - Cut Them Loose article. The most notable one is the shoulder injury to Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford. At this point you just kind of feel bad for the Lions and Stafford, who’s already on his second shoulder injury of the season. At first Detroit was optimistic about it but it’s the same type of injury that cut short the season of Sam Bradford, now with the St. Louis Rams, when he was still playing at Oklahoma.
Of course, an injury isn’t the only reason a player makes this list. We have a handful of guys who are either not producing or were borderline fantasy football players in the first place, and now that the bye weeks are over they are no longer needed. Now it’s time to find out who joins Stafford on the Week 11 Fantasy Football Waiver Wire - Cut Them Loose list.
QUARTERBACKS — CUT THEM LOOSE
Matthew Stafford (Detroit Lions)
It was reported by ESPN that Dr. James Andrews, who is the penultimate expert on pretty much any sports-related injury, did not think that Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford needed surgery. That is good news. The bad news is that this is not an injury that heals overnight and even if Stafford does return this season it will likely be during the fantasy playoffs or later. The Lions are in no need to rush him back considering they’re so far behind in the standings. Even if he does return this season he won’t be 100 percent and it’s likely that your fantasy season is in the heart of the playoffs. We don’t know about you, however it’s never wise to play a guy coming off an injury with a league championship on the line. It is a shame to see injuries pile for a young quarterback with so much potential, yet at the same time you can’t continue to waste a roster spot on somebody who’s not going to play. Time to drop Stafford for somebody who’s actually on the field.
Cut Them Loose Watch List: Brett Favre (Minnesota Vikings)
Keep Them Cut List: Derek Anderson (Arizona Cardinals), Trent Edwards (Jacksonville Jaguars), Matt Hasselbeck (Seattle Seahawks), Alex Smith (San Francisco 49ers), Bruce Gradkowski (Oakland Raiders,), Donovan McNabb (Washington Redskins), Tony Romo (Dallas Cowboys), Kevin Kolb (Philadelphia Eagles), Chad Henne (Miami Dolphins)
