NFL Network’s Mike Lombardi reports that he’s “been hearing talk” that Tarvaris Jackson might request a trade if and when the Vikings sign Brett Favre.

REALLY!  What has Tavaris Jackson done in the NFL?  The consensus is he will be a back up for anyone who has interest in him. I think it is a mistake for him at this point in his career. A lot of young signal callers would love the chance to get paid and learn from a legend. But wait!

The last couple years of Favre’s career have not gone by the script. Many wanted to see him carried off into the sunset like Elway. I am not ready to call his last years Jordanesque, but a train wreck in Minnesota will put him up there. Upon reading the headline, I was prepared to bash Tavaris. My opening lines were harsh at first. After some thought, I feel this situation is as much an indictment of Tavaris’ maturity as it is of Favre’s ability as a mentor.

I have always liked Favre, but as the curtain has been pulled back a little near the end of his career, I wish the lights were off.

Rotobard,

Great analysis! I personally think it would be a mistake for Tarvaris to seek a trade. Should Favre return and join the Vikings, the experiment would most likely be just a one year thing, meaning Tarvaris would have a chance to compete for the starting job again next season. He’s going to find it hard to find another situation that will give him a chance to start prior to that.

Why would he leave when he could learn a ton from a sure Hall Of Famer. I truley believe that the JETS are better having Farve for a year than not having Favre at all! Look at Rodgers, where did he learn from? These players nowadays want instant glory. Never forget that even Favre played backup. Tavaris is a Bumm anyway so who cares if he wants to be traded. let him sit the season out, because noone will pick him up. The only player who can demand to be traded and be legitimate is Anquan Bouldin!

Playa Slaya,

I agree that learning from a legend is good for a young QB; however, I’m not sure how much Favre’s year in New York will help the J-E-T-S! After all, there QB of the future is obviously Sanchez, who need I remind you was not in New York last season.

The only thing Jackson is decent at is running the football and that’s not really what you are seeking for in your starting quarterback.

Tarvaris you should get a clue!

End of Argument

Cavigs,

Those numbers put Joey Harrington to shame. Doesn’t that count for something? Haha. Joey Harrington, Charles Rogers, Mike Williams… Oh my, I am not feeling well all of a sudden.
