So far:

QB - Rodgers
RB - L. Johnson
RB - Bradshaw
WR - C. Johnson
WR - Wayne
WR - Driver
TE - Finley

BE - Cedric Benson
BE - Reggie Bush
BE - Devin Hester
BE - Jamaal Charles

So far, so good. Didn’t expect to have this much depth at RB since I waited til the 4th round to draft my first.

So Far….

QB: Matt Hasselbeck / Matt Cassel
RB: Brian Westbrook
RB: Darren McFadden
WR: Andre Johnson
WR: Dwayne Bowe
WR: Hines Ward
TE: Zach Miller
K:
D/ST:

Be: Knowshon Moreno
Be: Donnie Avery
Be: James Davis
Be: Justin Gage
Be: Matt Hasselbeck / Matt Cassel

This is my current squad out of the 12-spot.  Obviously QB is my weakness but I go into just about every draft giving up QB strength for depth at the core positions plus I am confident that a combo of Hasselbeck and Cassel will give me a solid weekly option at the QB position.

Only three more picks left and I need to target a Kicker and a Defense (unless I decide against it) so I will let you know how it plays out.

Bruno Boys Larry - 07 September 2009 08:01 PM

After 10 rounds:

QB - M. Ryan
RB - D. Will
RB - R. Brown
WR - G. Jennings
WR - D. Jackson
WR - K. Walter
TE- Gonzo
D/ST - G-Men
B - L. Coles
B - E. Graham

I am still pretty happy. Could have used depth at RB, but with starting 3 WR I am pretty happy.

I just added Fred Taylor and Kyle Orton for depth. Some questions, but we are getting late in the draft.

Team through 12:

QB-Warner, Eli Manning
RB-LT, Jacobs, Parker, Sproles
WR-Housh, Gonzalez, Mason, Earl Bennett
TE-Kellen Winslow, Dustin Keller

Team is ok. Receivers are obviously my biggest weakness.

hit Chambers as my WR4 as well as nailed Shockey; a player with solid value this late. Very, very happy with the draft so far.

Went with Edgerrin James and Stephen Gostkowski in the 13th and 14th round.  I never recommend drafting a kicker unless it’s the last round and I have played in 20+ leagues this year and NEVER done it but I thought I would try something new here.  I had both the Redskins and Dolphins defense in queue and figured one of them would get back to me before Gostkowski and I have targeted Austin Collie with one of my last two picks in just about every draft lately so I felt it was the right time to take a kicker.  We will see if it pays off.

Only a few more rounds to go.

Only a few more rounds to go.

The plan of taking Stephen Gostkowski in Round 14 worked out as I was able to land Austin Collie (who I queued up for a Rd. 15 or Rd 16 pick right away) in Round 15 and the Washington Redskins D/ST in Round 16.  Now I need Gostkowski to be the consistent option I am seeking from my kicker position. If he can get me the 6-10 points I expect out of my kicker on a weekly basis it will be equal production to that of my WR3 which should be a big help. Like I told some of the other staff members in the chat room, I am not sure Gostkowski has the most fantasy points from the kicker position at seasons end but he should be the most consistent and sometimes it’s a few extra points from a kicker that is a the difference from a win or loss.

I am interested to see what some of the Bruno Boys Nation members think of the final product.  It might not be FULL of big names but in a standard scoring (non-PPR) league I like my chances.

I’m pretty happy with the overall product:

QB: Peyton Manning
RBs: Adrian Peterson, Marshawn Lynch, Lendale White, LeSean McCoy, Bernard Scott
WRs: Steve Smith (Car), Bernard Berrian, Torry Holt, Nate Washington, Joey Galloway, Isaac Bruce
TEs: Antonio Gates, Visanthe Shiancoe
D/ST: Chicago Bears
K: Nick Folk

I think I did a good job at accumulating a solid core of RBs throughout the draft. I’m a huge fan of Marshawn Lynch once he gets off his suspension, and feel that I am able to get 1st-2nd round value out of his 4th round investment.

I also love the TEs with Antonio Gates and Shiancoe. I think Shiancoe sees a huge boost with Brett Favre there, and while I don’t plan on starting him except for Gates’ bye week, he could be quite valuable if he can post 700 yards and 7 TDs; which isn’t out of the realm of possibility.

I am very worried about my WRs however, and think that I will definitely be scouring the waiver wire and pushing offers out early and often throughout the season.

Thoughts?

Here is my final team

QB-Brady
RB-Forte
RB-Addai
WR-Boldin
WR-Royal
WR-Harvin
TE-Olsen
K-Nedney
DEF-Ravens
BN-Leon Washington
BN-Coffee
BN-Ginn
BN-S. Smith (NYG)
BN-Quinn
BN-Jared Cook
BN-Chargers

Overall I am pretty happy with my team.  Hopeful that Addai will bounce back and Harvin will be what he is supposed to.  Love the young bench of Washington, Coffee, Smith, Ginn, Quinn, and Cook.  At least a couple has to pan out right?  Tell me how I did Bruno Boys Nation!  Good or bad.

Solid draft everyone. Each person in this league is very knowledgeable in my opinion and it will be a tight race all the way to the end. With that being said, I thought it’d be cool to get everyone to rank the teams 1-12. May be something fun to look back on at the end of the season. With every team evenly matched, this will be difficult but here is what I got:

1. Jacob (He knows his receivers are an issue but he has talent all throughout his team. Will need to hope for LenDale White to really pick it up while Lynch is out.)

2. Matt (I guess you can wait on the running back position. Like the talent he has in his lineup and has good options on the bench too.)

3. Whooley (Impressive he managed 2 drafts and still landed a solid all around team. Needs Pierre Thomas to get healthy or he may be in a pickle at running back.)

4. Dominic (If his team stays healthy then he could be the team to beat. Has a lot of solid options and young up and comers.)

5. Greg (I guess everyone believes their team is playoff worthy at this point. I have a mediocore receiving core and it may be what keeps from title contention.)

6. Cory (Lineup is rock solid. Depth may be a bit of an issue but at this point, you have everything needed to contend by seasons end.)

7. Jimbo (Another good lineup but really lacks the depth needed to make a run, especially at running back.)

8. Cavigs (I can see you making the playoffs but right now, I’m not sure who I’d slide out of the top 6. I like Hasselbeck and it shows you can wait for a QB.)

9. Ziza (The biggest weakness for you is at receiver, like me. If Marshall can get his head on straight and play at a high level, you should be ranked higher than this.)

10. Kyle (Have a solid trio in Brees, Jones-Drew, and Portis but like me, have a mediocore receiving core.)

11. Larry (Solid lineup but do not have any solid backups behind them. Could finish a lot higher than this.)

12. Hallam (Another good lineup, but like Larry, I personally do not like what you have backing them up. The telling sign of an extremely tough league, I could see Hallam and Larry battling it out for the title!)

I believe our league is public, meaning you could see everyone’s team and rank them yourself. I will let Cavigs determine that and post the link if it is public.

Here is my final team:

QB- Matt Ryan
RB- DeAngelo Williams
RB- Ronnie Brown
WR- Greg Jennings
WR- DeSean Jackson
WR- Kevin Walter
TE- Tony Gonzalez
K- Neil Rackers
D/ST- NY Giants
B- Laveranues Coles
B- Ernest Graham
B- Fred Taylor
B- Kyle Orton
B- Willis McGahee
B- Tony Scheffler
B- Malcolm Kelly

Overall I am pretty happy with this draft. As Greg pointed out above, I would have liked to have been stronger at RB. I do think I did a decent job of adding some veteran depth later that could make for some decent bye week replacements. Kelly became a sleeper pick after likely earning WR2 spot in Washington for the start of the season.

This was one of the tougher drafts I have been involved, but that is what I expected drafting with this group of experts.

On paper all teams appear solid, we all have strengths and weaknesses and it will be interesting to see who makes the playoffs.

I do have a confession to make. I normally wouldn’t even consider taking a WR in the first round, but I used this league as research/example for a draft theory article I’m going to write next season. Personally, I’m amazed my team turned out as good as it did because I thought I would be dominated taking my favorite WR at #5 overall instead of Steven Jackson, LaDainian Tomlinson, or DeAngelo Williams. Had things fallen the way I mocked them (about 24 different times!) I would have landed Jennings in the 2nd round and Ocho Cinco in the 5th, though I wouldn’t be as deep at RB had that happened. All in all, I learned something tonight!

Awesome stuff Greg.  You can almost transition this into a weekly article in which you give Power Rankings for our staff league and we post it on the Bruno Boys website and have some forum discussion about it.

We know tons of our loyal readers will be watching this league closely so why not make it even bigger! Plus everyone loves some power rankings.

However, you must have been drunk when making these rankings as the squad that Bruno Boys Cavigs drafted is second to none.  Edgerrin James will lead my team to the promise land… right?

Last, you are correct when you say the league is public.  If anyone is interested they can check it out here…  http://games.espn.go.com/ffl/leagueoffice?leagueId=326518
