Was just offered pretty much a 1:1 swap in a dynasty league…who would you rather have? Brady has 4 years on Schaub, but also the upside (pats run up the score when they can), but schaub seems to have finally gotten in full sync with his offense not to mention a younger receiver in Andre Johnson. I would be getting Brady btw, any thoughts?

I guess it depends on who your backup is. I love the upside of Schaub, but his issue have been health. This was the first season he was able to stay healthy and it produced great results, but Schaub still carries the injury-prone stigma around. Brady on the other hand is consistently good and should be better in 2010 than he was this season even without Wes Welker, who probably won’t return until late October at best because of ACL/MCL injuries.

The Pats have lost so much in the way of coaches leaving for better opportunities, you have to wonder if that dynasty is coming to an end. That’s something that can’t be ignored, and when healthy Schaub is really good. If you have a serviceable or better backup then I might go with Schaub.

Having said all that, if it’s you giving up Brady, why not try to swing the trade more in your favor? Make it two players going each way where you get the better player (in terms of perceived value) at the other position.

So give us some more details and we’ll do our best to help you out.

Thanks for the quick reply. ^^ thats exactly what I was thinking too. I have Schaub btw, and would be getting Brady. I actually don’t have anyone to backup Schaub right now (just dropped my backup at end of season). I really don’t need much help anywhere else except maybe the safety position, but from your last statement it sounds like you think the one getting Brady is the better side of the deal?

I, unfortunately, dont have a dynastly league Im in or else I would be standing pat on Schaub.  He has argueabley one of the best WRs in Johnson.  One of the best TEs and a line that improved in protecting him more at the end of the season.  Injury prone maybe, but this year he proved he can play through some issues such as his foot and a dislocated shoulder.

Another thought or angle to look at it.  Play off picture.  Who is more likely to be in the hunt again next year?  No reason why Houston shouldnt be fighting for another play off run.  Some may say NE could be just as good next year.  Others think they are done for.  Rebuilding time in NE.  Something tells me Schaub will be fighting to get in again.  Good enough to be there and trying hard but not TOO good where he runs the risk of being sat in weeks 16 or 17.

Not sure if that factors….But It has to be in the mind of a veteran play when he drafts.  It happens EVERY year where teams are hurt by the decisions to sit.  Who was it two years ago? Well I had Warner and I got bit.  He did it again this year to owners.  Pretty sure its been the same QBs and players on those teams that deal with it time and time again.

Hmm..I smell an interesting article .....

IMO

I apologize I wasn’t more clear, it’s been a long day (aren’t all Mondays?). I meant to say whoever would be getting Schaub would be getting the better end of the deal, but that you could try to sweeten it up more if you felt like it.

Since you have Schaub, I would just deny the offer and make sure you get a solid backup because Schaub does have injury concerns, though those didn’t arise this season.

If you keep Schaub though I might take a decent backup a little earlier in the draft than you normally would. Not saying way earlier in the draft, just maybe a round or two more than you normally would. Depends on your league too of course. Schaub does have those injury issues and being stuck with an inconsistent QB for the rest of the season is frustrating.

I would go with Schaub over Brady in a dynasty league even with Schaub’s injury concerns. I had the Schaub-Johnson combo in one of my leagues this season and with that duo and Chris Johnson I finshed first in the regular season.  I wouldn’t hesitate to draft the Schaub-Johnson combo again though I know that others in my league will have their eyes on them too. The Houston offense is/was exciting to watch and hopefully with further development they will be able to put together four quarters of consistent play instead of two…there were several games where they played great the first half and then fell flat in the second or vice versa.

If Houston builds a solid (and consistent) running game into their offense, Owen Daniels returns healthy, and the defense continues to get stronger and protect Schaub…Houston should be a playoff contender next season. Our playoff rounds were Weeks 16-17 and I was happy knowing that Schaub and Johnson would play four quarters of football. I personally don’t think that having Schaub as your QB1 merits any earlier backup QB drafting than Brady or other QBs…though I agree that having a backup QB is a smart thing to do if your overall roster is solid.
