Zach Ertz, Philadelphia Eagles at Pittsburgh Steelers
It’s a hard even writing that out. Ertz as a Sit recommendation. Yet I’ve watched him closely in the first four games of the season. I was frustrated in the Rams game that Carson Wentz wasn’t throwing to Ertz, who in years past force fed him the ball. Instead Wentz kept throwing to Dallas Goedert, even when Ertz was open.
Week 3 appeared a game in the right direction but Week 4 was another step back. With so many injuries to the Eagles receivers and Goedert, to see Ertz catch 4-of-5 targets against the Niners, for nine yards and one 2-point conversion. Ertz has flaked even in good matchups so it’s troubling for his owners to bench a player of his caliber. Yet when every sign is pointing to a Start and it’s still hard to do it, it might be time to take a step back and let him find his way again. He’s too good to drop or let go, but it’s painful to start him when he’s giving back TE2 numbers.
