Jared Goff, Detroit Lions vs. San Francisco 49ers

Let’s face it, Goff is probably itching to show his old team that they made a mistake trading him for Matthew Stafford, but he is going to have to wait for that later in the season. Instead, the Niners are in town and Goff gets one of the best defenses in the league that is much healthier than it was in all of 2020. The best thing that can be said about this Lions’ team is that there are three first-round picks at offensive line, because they’ll need to buy Goff plenty of time to find open receivers.

Goff might have one of the weakest bunch of receivers in the league. Kenny Golladay and Marvin Jones left Motown to get a new look on life and so his starters are Tyrell Williams (journeyman), with unproven youth in Raymond Kalif, and Quintez Cepheus. After cut day, the Lions traded with the Broncos to bring in Trinity Benson and picked up KhaDarel Hodge from the Browns. Despite just joining the team, both could become starters before too long. But that kind of guess work in evaluating this receiving corps is exactly why it’s going to tough to find a week to start Goff in the early portion of the season.
