5. JuJu Smith-Schuster and Marquez Valdez-Scantling, WR, Kansas City Chiefs at Denver Broncos
JJSS has been trending down lately coming into Week 14 with three straight games scoring less than 6.0 fantasy points and he missed a fourth game with an injury. TO his credit, he’s seen some nasty matchups of late having just seen the Bengals and their stifling defense, the Rams with Jalen Ramsey, and only caught two passes against the Jaguars in Week 10. One would say that he’s due for a breakout game in fantasy.
However, the game doesn’t get any easier with the Broncos on deck with Patrick Surtain II and Damarri Mathis in coverage. It’s hard to believe that they’ve allowed just four receivers to score touchdowns, and of the four, Davante Adams (who’s had two fantasy-worthy games against the Broncos) and Nick Westbrook-Ikhine scored two each.
The deadly thing about the Chiefs is that they don’t just have receivers to throw to. So even if Surtain and Mathis have Smith-Schuster, Marquez Valdez-Scantling, and Kadarius Toney blanketed, Travis Kelce is the best tight end in the league. Noah Gray and Jody Fortson are touchdown threats too. Jerick McKinnon and Isiah Pacheco are in the mix too. Patrick Mahomes will find ways to go downfield, but we expect down days for the Chiefs’ top receivers.
