David Njoku, TE, Cleveland Browns

At first glance, Deshaun Watson being suspended for the first 11 games of the season is a fantasy death knell for all Browns’ pass catchers. But that would be missing how heavily Jacoby Brissett targets tight ends.

Over the last five seasons, according to Jake Tribbey of Fantasy Points, Brissett has the third-highest target share to tight ends among quarterbacks who qualify (29.5 percent). In 2017 with the Colts, Jack Doyle had 80 receptions and was a top-10 fantasy tight end with Brissett mostly throwing him the ball. In 2019, Brissett’s other season starting most of the games for the Colts, Doyle and Eric Ebron combined for a statline that would have been TE6 in full PPR.

Njoku was easy to just ignore in drafts, though judging by his ownership in Yahoo! leagues he didn’t go totally unnoticed there. Still, fantasy managers who didn’t draft one of the top several tight ends should consider plucking Njoku off the waiver wire as at least at TE2 to stash and see what happens.
