Khalil Herbert, RB, Chicago Bears

David Montgomery is the Bears’ lead running back and he’s plenty capable. But there are questions about how he fits in the team’s new offense, at least according to ESPN’s Dan Graziano, with the Herbert fits the scheme better.

Herbert had 18 or more carries in four straight games as a rookie last season when Montgomery was out. He cleared 70 yards on the ground in all four, with 10 targets over the last three (nine catches). He was a top-20 fantasy running back over that stretch (Week 5-8).

Herbert is the handcuff to Montgomery more than anything right now, and he’s not going to be an immediate lineup option. But he’s a running back with a pulse, or a potential pulse, and he’s worth adding to hold down an early back-end roster spot in leagues with 12 or more teams.
