Week 2 brought a litany of notable NFL injuries (Saquon Barkley, Christian McCaffrey), which altered any framework of early Week 3 waiver wire plans for fantasy football managers.

Here are nine (wait we lied, 10) early must-adds off your fantasy football waiver wire for Week 3.

Devonta Freeman, RB, New York Giants

In the wake of Saquon Barkley’s torn ACL, Freeman visited the Giants on Monday and signed a contract with them on Tuesday. This is good news because the Giants now will have a pulse in the run game and it should allow for their pass catchers and Evan Engram to retain some fantasy relevance. It also leads to Freeman having immediate fantasy football value.

Freeman’s peak as a fantasy running back is fading from memory, but even last year he had 59 catches and six total touchdowns for the Falcons. So if he finds his way to a solid role, with the Giants (which he should), there’s some value to be mined in fantasy.

If you owned Barkley, you need to put an immediate waive wire claim or spend half of your FAAB money on a Freeman bid. Heck, even if you don’t own Freeman it’s worth trying to add him to your roster. When he is primed and working at game speed, Freeman can be used as a RB2 in PPR formats and a match-up play RB2 or Flex in non-PPR formats. He will be a hot commodity on the Week 3 waiver wire.
