Justin Herbert, QB, Los Angeles Chargers
Herbert went 20-for-25 for 290 yards with three touchdowns and an interception against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, while adding 14 rushing yards. He has thrown for least 290 yards in all three of his starts now (over 300 twice), with multiple touchdowns accounted for in two of three. In two of those three starts, he has also posted more than 23 fantasy points (Yahoo! scoring)
Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn will probably continue trying to hold the Tyrod Taylor “he’ll start when he’s healthy” card over Herbert. But the offense has looked far better with the rookie under center, and the set of upcoming matchups are quite good from a fantasy perspective.
Three of the Chargers’ next five opponents (New Orleans Saints-Week 5, Miami Dolphins-Week 7, Jacksonville Jaguars-Week 8), entered Week 4 in the bottom-six of the league in fantasy points allowed to quarterbacks (Yahoo! scoring). The exceptions, the New York Jets (Week 6) and Las Vegas Raiders (Week 9), aren’t exactly formidable defenses themselves.
Herbert is a must-add in two-quarterback leagues, and in leagues where only one quarterback is started he’s in that must-add territory as a QB2 with scheduled bye weeks coming. The possible re-insertion of Taylor as the starter is not something to really worry about, unless Lunn wants to be fired
